Saturday 5th September 9.30am- 1.30pm (Get there before 9.30 to register . . .)
St Andrew's Anglican Cathedral, George St (Town Hall Station)
Are your hymns boring? Does your congregation drag? Does your choir complain about your accompaniment? Do you know how to get the best out of your organ?
An extraordinary opportunity for all organists involved in choir & hymn accompaniment, be they great or small. Be you a beginner (min standard AMEB Grade 4), or a super advanced player, this day has someting for YOU. A practical 'hands on' day for all who would like to learn how to inspire and lead a congregation from the organ.
We will be honoured to learn from the hands and feet of a true master: Dr Robert Boughen, OBE FRCO; sometime organist of St John's Cathedral Brisbane for 40 years, and a fabled jazz pianist. A rare Sydney appearance! This man is a living legend- an acknowleged grand wizard of accompaniment, and he will be assisted by Peter Jewkes (Organist of Christ Church St Lawrence) & Ross Cobb (Organist of St Andrew's Cathedral). The choristers of St Andrew's Cathedral will be our guinea pig choir for the day.
The day will mainly focus on hymns- both great and small, and choir accompaniment, and several city organs will be used.
Finishing with a hymn-playing competition, the day will inspire and encourage all who play the organ in Schools, Cathedrals, Churches & Chapels.
This crucial event has been organised & jointly sponsored by Sydney Organ Music Society, The Royal School of Church Music together with St Andrew's Cathedral. Be there, it's going to be a great day.
Cost $30, includes materials, coffee & tea during the morning & pizza lunch.
Registration required in advance: rcobb@..., or phone 02 92651674. Enquiries welcome.
Please advise of any hymns that you will bring, or would like to see covered.
