The Catholic Leader is a publication of the Archdiocese of Sydney. This month their online forum is looking at Australia’s Favourite Hymns. You can check it out at:

On this subject the Royal School of Church Music NSW Division next Saturday is hosting a seminar entitled “What Makes a Good Hymn”. A great opportunity to also have a look at a very interesting worship space. The details are:

August  Saturday 26 St Patrick's Cathedral, 1 Marist Place Parramatta

Hymn Seminar 'What makes a good hymn?' with Kelvin Hastie

This will be a combined event with the Guild of Church Musicians and the Sydney Organ Music Society and will include an organ recital by Brett McKern on the newly installed Norman & Beard organ and a short tour of the Cathedral. The proceedings will commence at 10 AM and will conclude by 1 PM.

Why don't you invite the people who choose hymns for services at your church to come?

There is a fee, but it’s not on the web site. But its quite reasonable. You can check out the RSCM events at: http://www.rscmnsw.org.au/events/
