Yuletide is the Christmas season - Yule means Christmas. Yulefest is the term that has become associated in parts of Australia with a winter festival similar to the Christmas festival in the northern hemisphere - with a Christmas feast and the Christmas trimmings - but usually without present giving.

The Blue Mountains communities have been celebrating Yulefest for about 20 years - it brings in the tourists and sometimes it even snows! (Yulefest info courtesy Angelina, tangoaustralia.com.au) We are hoping for this to be an annual event as there has often been talk about a Grand Milonga, so why not combine the two and use the ambience of a 1920's Grand Ballroom during the Blue Mountains Yulefest season to create a wonderful milonga.

As a light supper is included in the ticket price the milonga has to be pre-booked.
Please send payment of $45 to -

Excellent work, Karen,

It's good to have a regular milonga with an eclectic music mix back on the Sydney calendar.Providing, of course, that it passes the "trial". A venue where we can have dinner beforehand is a bonus, and the menu looks fairly good http://www.mrmarys.com/ .

See you on the dance floor

Dear Tango dancers

I’m happy to announce that Tango Synergy has secured a new venue for our Wednesday night milonga starting from next Wednesday 11 June. It features a great dance floor with tables and chairs for dinner and drinks. It also has a PA system – hooray. We’ll be trialling it initially and then confirming a regular gig.

Now to ensure we do provide the venue with some income we’re introducing a $5 honesty box at the front door, it would also be great if you enjoyed some food or wine but of course not mandatory.

Time:                8pm – 12 midnight

The venue is:     Marys Hotel

                        106 George Street

                        Redfern

(the nice side of Redfern)

Do hope we see you there, and hope you all enjoy a beautiful long weekend.

Cheers

Karen

Hi all,

Its great to hear you guys have got a venue in Redfern...i believe its the place to be! In fact a small group of dedicated creatives are starting an artist run space just around the corner. I have put in for a 50 sqm sprung dance floor...yay.  The aim of this space will be to provide affordable studio space for 12 artists, and access to rehearsal space and possibly venue hire (of the floor) for a nominal fee. The space, called Bill and George is a non-profit co-operative. As a member of the tango community i would love to see space hungry dancers have a place to use that is secure. We are holding an open day on the 30th of June and 1st of July, where we would like to consult interested parties about what their needs, wishes and desires. It would be great if a few members of sydneytango dancers, and Tango Synergy, or other members of the community would like to come along and have a look. We are trying to keep the groups relatively small so we can have a productive discussion and input. If you are interested in coming along please contact me  at hosi@....

They¡¯ll be giving lessons from June 21st to 29th, and performing on
the 23rd (Saturday). Check here for detail information:

We believe that it¡¯s a great chance for you to come and enjoy
dancing tango in Korea, and of course, to get closer to the masters!

Hello everyone

I bring sad news, as the Off-Broadway Hotel have pulled the pin on our
Tango evenings at their venue on Wednesday nights.

Unfortunately the Pool Tables earn more income than what we spend behind
the bar, so therefore the pool tables win.. Sad but true.

We are on the hunt for another venue to replace this Wednesday night
venue. The Swingtime venue at Camperdown has a Thursday night free in the
backroom which is $60 a night, however we will continue scouting around
for other venues.

The GOOD NEWS is that the restaurant Jacana in North Sydney who recently
hosted the International Tango Festival has invited us to dance in their
restaurant once a month (the first Wednesday of the month).

Our first one will be 1st Wednesday in July and this milonga will be $15,
however you will get a meal from their menu to the value of $15. Dancers
arriving after 10pm can enter for $10 and will receive dessert or a glass
of wine.

As this is the second night club to favour bar/pool tables rather than non
drinking patrons, we will unfortunately have to enforce some kind of
income to the venue owners.

I hope you all understand.

If you know of any other venues that may be an option to replace the
Off-Broadway Hotel, please let any of the Tango Synergy team know.

Kind regards

Dear Tango Dancers

In the interest of supporting an international event where
international dancers and teachers alike grace our shores, Tango
Synergy has decided to cancel its Wednesday night milonga this week.

As you know Tango Synergy is about making tango stronger in the
community and by holding a conflicting milonga with such a festival,
we feel that we wouldn't be holding to our values.

I have spoken to the organisers of the Wednesday night milonga and
they have offered Tango Synergy members a $5 discount for the
milonga held at Jacana Restaurant, 77 Berry Street, North Sydney,
simply because our own milonga is free to members.

We hope you will join us at the launch of the Sydney International
Tango Festival this Wednesday night.

Hello

Autumn is starting to turn on some chilly evenings and therefore our
outdoor milongas at the Italian Leichhardt Forum are coming to an end.

Tomorrow night is our last evening until spring, so do hope you can
come and join us.

We are in need of a DJ so if anybody would like to volunteer we need
you there at approximately 7:20pm.

Tango Synergy will be applying to start our outdoor milongas again in
Spring, so hopefully this won't be the last one at this unique venue.
Also we hope to have a proper portable dance floor.

Cheers and Enjoy

Hello lovely dancers

Just a quick reminder that Tango Synergy is holding its monthly
milonga this Friday night 18th May. (remember the 3rd Friday of every
month)

We will be welcoming back all our friends who have recently travelled
to BA and can't wait to hear their stories.

We also have Salsa beginning in the smaller room, so if you feel like
loosening up with a bit of Salsa, you can just pop into the next room
and enjoy some other Latin flavours. If anyone can bring along some
Salsa music to add to the collection, it would be most welcome as we
possibly don't have 5 hours of salsa music and may therefore have to
repeat some.

We will also be celebrating all the May birthdays with a birthday
milonga so please join us on the dance floor for this once in a year
opportunity to help us celebrate with you.

Chris will be DJ'ing this Friday night, but again, if anyone would
like to offer a couple of tandas of music during the night, please
bring them along.

As there isn't a bar available you are welcome to bring your own Wine
and Beer.

Cost is $5 for Tango Synergy Members or $10 for non-members.

The venue address is: Level 2, 108 Parramatta Road, Camperdown (cnr
Missenden Road)
Time: 8:30 - 1am

We are a not-for profit organisation and any profits of the evening
will be invested on new assets including music for everybody to enjoy.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

are most likely mine (2 drinks only - I know!). If not you'll probably
see me in my high heels at the next milonga :)
Thanks for the music, Mark

Cheesey cheers,

Julian

Shameless promotion for Tangoaustralia website which will feature
interviews with dancers who are coming to Sydney for Workshops and the
Festival - and a fantastic interview with Federico and Hosanna - over
the next few weeks.
Love some feedback,

The weather forecast is showers for tomorrow so just wanted to confirm
the venue will be Off Broadway Bar.
We have a guest DJ for the night- Yoshi Hosaka who has compiled a
great selection of tradition music and allowed me to add in some nuevo

Hope to see you all there.

I also noticed there is a new package. (The festival)

I do not have answer to the enquiry but,

Many people already have booked Javier/Andrea ones?
But I think, especially for new dancers and especially for New Tango
scene dancers, Cecilia and Lucia are really good value.

Last year I did Cecilia's improvisation class and it was really
good.
Two dancers put their hands on different parts of back of a main
dancer and this main dancer was asked to express music with entire
body... (Using a lots of dissociations and directing each part of
body in different directions... totally free from any general Tango
move restrictions)... two other dancers then followed each part of
the body - as if they became a wing or something...

Lucia's class was about super simple 'walking' class... but walking
side by side and then swapping the side and so on... She and her
partner also used this walking workshop for the professional dancers
class too! The teachers who took part of it liked it a lot and some
now use the same techniques in their classes since.

They are both sort of dancers who have special interests in teaching
technique. So I consider them as teacher's teachers.

They both also seem to have strong BA Nuevo connection.

Ok, I got answer for tonight.
Does anyone know about Festival's new package?

About tonight's Glebe Milonga - it seems there will be a performance
and no surcharge.

Any one know?

(Glebe)?
(I didn't go the last week's Friday milonga, so I missed out on the
announcement.)
Will there be a special surcharge?

> I heard The Tango Festival now offer beginners package, so I checked
out the web site. It says $90 for 3 workshops. Any one bought this
package? I guess, I can only buy one package and can no do 2!?

Hi guys

Hope you're enjoying your Anzac Day.

Unfortunately due to the rain, the Italian Forum is cancelled. Usually
on wet weather days we move the milonga to the Off-Broadway Hotel,
however because of Anzac Day the hotel also has events on tonight such
as Two Up.

So I apologise for the late notice, but wish you luck in the Two Up
held around the city tonight. If you really want to have a dance
tonight, Dance Tango have a practica in Randwick from 8:00- 10.30pm.

Cheers

Karen Garnett
