Casa Luna sits in the midst of TWENTY-ONE OF THE BEST MILONGAS in Buenos Aires.
What could be better than that? Four Star Luxury Accomations in an historic
Arte Deco 3,000 square foot Villa & the Garden Apartment nestled in a 200 sq.
meter compound. Wonderful Gardens with stands of trees, & a private Sun
Terrace.  Here is how one of our guests described her experience;
"After a recent trip to Buenos Aires, I feel compelled to provide the following
recommendation for Casa Luna:
If you want to enjoy the Tango atmosphere first hand without breaking the bank,
you cannot beat Casa Luna in Buenos Aires. I found it to be affordable, safe,
clean, and in the heart of the Tango district. When I wanted to explore other
parts of the city I had the option of stepping out the front door and hailing a
taxi or walking a couple blocks to the subway.
The accommodations were quite charming. There is a lovely entrance and courtyard
with a tropical atmosphere. I stayed in the smaller quarters that included a
bedroom with a TV, and kitchenette. The bathroom was extremely nice and almost
as large as the bedroom. I toured the larger quarters and found it to be
absolutely beautiful and spacious while too large for one person.
I cannot give the owner of Casa Luna enough praise as it was like having my own
private tour guide. She knew the best places to eat and all of the tango halls
intimately. If I was shopping for something special, she researched it and
provided directions to the place so I could find it the following day such as
hand-made tango shoes or other attire. I would be happy to provide a reference
to for this proprietor in the future if requested.

Free Canyengue lesson at next week’s Milonga

The lesson will run from 8-9pm before the milonga continues as usual. The class is free for Synergy members, or $5 for non-members. Come along and take advantage of Nelson’s unique knowledge about this fun style, which was a precursor to tango as we know it.

TangoFest 2009 Image

TangoFest 2009 runs from 3 June until 7 June 2009

Only a month to go until Tangofest 2009!

It’s just about a month away before we gather once again for the biggest tango event in Australia, the 5th International Tango Festival beginning on 3 June until 7 June 2009.

Don’t miss this wonderful event with the world famous dancer Geraldine Rojas dancing with Ezequiel Paludi.  There is also the fantastic dance couple who won 4 world tango championships Cristina Sosa and Daniel Nacucchio.  This will be the first time these guests will have visited Australia, let's show them a good time!

Those who have attended the past Festivals can vouch for the quality of the teachers that we invite to our Festivals.  Not only are they inspiring teachers but also  terrific tango dancers. This year we again have the distinguished Bandoneon professor, Joaquin Amenabar who will also be launching his book here!  Joaquin’s classes were so popular last year that we had to turn down disappointed late registrants.

Registrations for each workshop will be limited to 40.  Send in your bookings now if you do not want to miss out!  And for those intending to join the forthcoming Tango Championship announced recently, take advantage of learning from Cristina and Daniel.  See what the judges in 4 different world tango championships saw in them.  This will give you time to absorb and practise what you will learn before the competition happens.

We have also changed the plan for the last event during the Festival.  The original Farewell Dinner will now be a Farewell Dinner and Milonga.  Pedro Alvarez of Patio de Tango will be our DJ for the night with a selection of great tango music.  Join us in this informal dinner and have a nice chat with our guests.  The venue will be at the Farsaci Restaurant in Leichhardt where Tango Synergy holds their regular Tuesday Milongas.  The meal is cheaper and the Milonga is free to Festival participants.  So you can dance until midnight on the last day of the Festival before saying good-bye to our friends from outside of Sydney.

More exciting news to come.

In the meantime, keep on dancing.

Dear Tangueros,

Welcome back after what I hope was an enjoyable long weekend.
Hopefully you've all now adjusted to the new schedule, with Tango Synergy's milongas now on every TUESDAY at Farsaci restaurant. Now that the weather’s cooled down, we’ll keep our milongas indoors until next spring. So no more confusion as to where we are!
Our generous host Joe has offered to clear more space and making a bigger dance floor for us at the restaurant! So come along, relax over a meal or just a coffee, and enjoy the friendly vibe and the varied music. Making his DJing debut this week is Julian, a long standing member of Synergy, so expect a good mix of old favourites and something new! Don't forget to contact Natalia if you'd like to try your hand at DJing one evening.

Location: Farsaci Restaurant, 198 - 200 Norton Street, Leichhardt. Parking is easy and the 440 bus stops right at the door.
Date: Tuesday 14 April 2009
Time: 8 - 11:30pm
Cost: Only $5 for members or $8 for non-members. As a member, your entry is free when you enjoy a meal at this authentic Italian restaurant.

Other upcoming events:
Carrington 1920s weekend
Our annual Yuletide Weekend in Katoomba is taking shape. More details will be available soon; for now, just mark the weekend of 17-18-19 July in your diaries!

Alexander Technique for Dancers

To be held on Sunday 26 April at The Tango Room in Paddington. The cost is just $50 for Tango Synergy members. Bookings are essential as spaces are nearly full; contact me (Rachel) for more information or see http://www.inspirebellydance.com.au/workshop.html

Dear tangueros,

Due to the forecast of cold, rainy weather on Monday, Tango Synergy have
decided to cancel Monday afternoon's outdoor milonga. This time it will NOT
be replaced by an indoor milonga at the restaurant. Please spread the word,
and enjoy your day off!

Also, it seems that even when the weather is fine, it has now become too
chilly for outdoor evening milongas. All our remaining scheduled outdoor
milongas for Tuesday evenings will be reverting back to our reliable,
wooden-floored, warm location at Farsaci Restaurant, 198-200 Norton St,
Leichhardt. So no more confusion as to where and when: every Tuesday night
from 8-11.30 we'll be dancing at the restaurant.
We hope to see you there soon!

Best regards

Fabrizio Forte y Celi Arias

Sydney should be very pleased to have the return of Fabrizio and his new partner Celi.  This will be Fabrizio's third trip to Sydney, part of their Australian Tour, and Celi's first, so we are sure everyone will make them feel welcome.

Fabrizio & Celi are featured teachers in the New Zealand Tango Festival currently being held and wanted to extend their trip to Australia, visiting many tango communities during the brief stay.

Fabrizio's style is a nice blend between the most modern development of tango and the traditional style. This allows him to dance in a playful and graceful manner with a close and open embrace. His strongest areas are definitely his precise technique and the way he transfers his knowledge. The clarity of his concepts and exercises enables a beginner or an advanced dancer to easily achieve the essence and the lead of every possible movement.

Celi Arias has been a professional dancer from an early age, beginning her career in classical ballet and then going on to receive a degree in modern dance from Hollins University in Virginia. She has performed with the American Dance Festival, Miguel Gutierrez and Shen Wei Dance Arts. She moved to Buenos Aires to study fashion design and fell in love with tango, studying intensively with Fabrizio Forti as well as taking classes with Luciana Valle, Julio and Corina, and Gustavo Naveira and Giselle Anne.

  • All workshops will be conducted in English, so no problem being "lost in translation".
  • There will also be special performances at "La Milonga".

It's important to know that all proceeds from the workshops we host go directly to the teachers, less the normal hire charges.

Club de Tango doesn't benefit in any monetary sense, and by doing this, we try to reduce the price for you as much as possible, with workshops from as little as $25.00 each when purchased in a package, including entry to " La Milonga"

After a fantastic two weeks of workshops eSO eS Tango is back to business as
usual...

*Beginners Tango Classes start and continue April 7 for the next 6 weeks on
Tuesday evenings 6:30-7:30. Cost $15. If you have any friends or family itching
to join you on the dancefloor it will be a great introduction. Classes at
BillandGeorge Studios, Redfern.

*Women's Technique course starting THIS Thursday April 9 7-8pm. Cost $20. Six
weeks of womens technique classes. Discover how to connect with the floor and
your axis, provide resistance, disassociate and pivot easily with a strong core
and good posture. Sounds like a lot, but the concept is through exercising these
elements we can discover a natural and relaxed method of dancing. The class is
stuctured to include a stretching warm-up followed by exercises which
demonstrate the topic area and can be practiced in your own time.

Enjoy the long weekend!

Dear Tangueros,

As we farewell the delightful Anibal Montenegro after his two weeks in Sydney, it’s time for another milonga under the stars at the Italian Forum!
Tonight, the Italian piazza is the gorgeous setting for our evening of dancing. Surrounded by restaurants, we always attract a crowd of dancers and onlookers, with dancing from 7.30-10.30pm and a mix of music this week by DJ Chris. A $5 donation is requested to cover costs. As yet we can’t guarantee the shoe-friendly floor will be there, so maybe bring an old pair of shoes or trainers just in case.

If you’re not keen on fighting the traffic to get away for Easter, join us again on Easter Monday (next Monday 13th) for another outdoor milonga in the afternoon, from 4-8pm. It will also be held at the Italian Forum. What better way to spend your public holiday! If the weather is poor this will be cancelled – contact Rachel 0403 771134 if unsure.

Tango Synergy members receive a discount of 10% (for 2 or more people) or 20% (for 4 or more people) if you mention this offer when dining at Dante restaurant, or Caesar’s while Dante is under renovation. Caesar’s is the pizza restaurant on the left hand side as you come down the stairs into the Piazza. Just another reason to join the association!

Don’t forget that members are welcome try their hand as guest DJs! If you’d like to make sure your favourite tunes get more air time, contact Natalia

This Milonga is held on the 3rd Saturday every month

Hi Tangueros

We are back at the Austrian Club for our milonga on the 18th April and we have lots of treats for you.

*    Our dear Nelson and Liz will being giving a class on Canyengue from 7.30pm – 8.30pm. How important is it to understand the origins and essence of what we are doing?

*    Both Roberto Chavez & Antonio Gomez will be performing

*    Plus a fabulous huge dance floor, door prize, easy parking, great food, this club has it all

If you have not been before we are not far from the bridge, around 15 – 20 mins and people tell us we play great music so why not give us a try.

Part proceeds of all milongas go to South and Central American Children’s Charity. We are now saving for the sponsorship of our Bolivian boy Jorge but Tupachula orphanage in Mexico has said they are low on funds too so we will raffle a bottle of Moet Champagne to help things along a bit. Any help is most appreciated.

There is a map and more details on the attached flyer.

We wish you a Happy Easter if we don’t see you before hand.

Best wishes

Margarita & Guy
