Hello Everybody,

I hope that everyone has finally finished exams by now, and that you
all did as well as you could.

Just a reminder for all of you that, yes, we continue to shoot during
the holidays right up until Christmas on our regular timeslot Tuesday
and Fridays 2-5pm.

Please be aware that with summer approaching, if you do come, bring a
good hat (or buy a club one at $15 each) and bring lots of water. We
do have sunscreen but obviously if you have your own you prefer, then
use that too.

If you're interested in buying chocolate (for personal consumption or
last minute christmas gift randomness if you can't think of anything
else, and believe me, it's been done before), we still have some boxes
left from our fundraising earlier in the year. They have been stored
quite well and should be in perfectly fine condition. If interested,
please contact the club publicity officer Kate to arrange purchase.
They are still at $48/box.

As the university will be shut down on December 22nd (Friday) and
reopen on the 2nd January (I think), we will be able to be back on the
5th (Friday) of January.

I have been informed by Malcolm Harrison from St Paul's College, that
there may be some cricket matches on the field during the summer break
period, but as soon as he knows, I hopefully will be notified if they
clash with our usual times.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,
Don Chiou

Dear All,

We have just received notice that St Paul's oval will be busy with
Inter-Coll softball this Tuesday and Friday afternoons. Thus:

THERE IS NO ARCHERY TRAINING THIS WEEK.
(Week 5: 22nd and 25th August)

Apologies for not being able to inform you all earlier, we only just
found out ourselves.

Training should resume as normal next week.

There are also five boxes of chocolates left if you would like to help
us out with that... Any other questions, just pop down to archery
NEXT week and give someone a shout.

Cheers,
Kate

Dear everyone,

This is going to be a long notice, so please bear with me:
1) Affiliation
2) Uniforms
3) Semester Fees
4) Club League Competition
5) Chocolates

1) Affiliation
If you would like to affiliate with Archery Australia and Archery
NSW for the 2006-07 season, please let Don know as soon as
possible. You will need to affiliate if you would like to shoot at
competitions outside of the club, and if you do affiliate, you will
be required to shoot for the club in at least one event.
Affiliation costs will be subsidised somewhat by the club, how much
is covered depends on the number affiliating.

2) Uniforms
Uniforms consist of a fantastic shirt and an awesome hat. If you
are going to compete outside of the club, you will need to buy these
items - though by all means you are welcome to purchase a uniform
even if you're not planning on competing. We have plenty of hats
available for a small fee of $15, but shirts will need to be
ordered. Please let us know if you would like a shirt so that we
can order a bunch in. Again, the cost cannot be confirmed until we
have numbers.

3) Semester Fees
Don has beaten me to this, but again a little reminder that the $15
semester fee is due, and will be very much appreciated.

4) Club League Competition
This is still going, despite having slowed down a little due to rain
and practising for Indoor. Just to reiterate, there are two
divisions: Novice and Open. The Novice is for those who started
shooting this year, and will be based on the top three sets of
scores, each set consisting of 30 arrows from 30m on a 122cm target
face. The Open is for those who shot last year or more, again based
on the top three sets of scores, each set consisting of 30 arrows
from 30m on a (smaller!) 80cm target face.
The competition will run into StuVac of this semester, so there is
still plenty of time to enter. Entry costs $5 and this goes towards
the prize for the winner, one for each division.

5) Fundraising Chocolates
Yes, there are still some left. Nine boxes, to be exact. There are
currently:
4 x Honeycomb blocks
2 x Dairy Milk Blocks
1 x Freddos
1 x Caramellos
1 x 1/2 Freddos and 1/2 Caramellos
Again, they are $48 per box, you will need to pay the entirety of
that, and then the box is yours to sell/give away/consume. Please
let me know if you would like a box. You can either speak to me at
training or e-mail me at eileenklee @ gmail.com (remove spaces
before and after the @)
It would be great if you could help us out with the rest of those as
we need the funds due to VSU.

Remember that training times have changed to 1pm-4pm, still on
Tuesdays and Fridays, until the end of August.

I believe that is all for today. Feel free to speak to someone at
training or send an e-mail if you have any questions.

Cheers,
Kate

Dear All,

We will be having a change in training times from this week until the
end of August due to AFL, Soccer, Rugby and Softball events on the
field.

Training will remain Tuesday and Friday but now will be from 1pm-4pm.

This change in times will mean that the other sports will train from
4pm and will be using our half of the field etc.

Please let anyone you know who may not know about this change.

Also, reminder, $15 membership fee for this semester is due. VSU is
in effect this semester onwards so your membership fees support is
greatly appreciated.

We still have chocolates available for sale, please look out for an
email from Kate or contact her.

Dear all,

As it has been exams and holidays, the number of people shooting are
quite small and expected. Please do remember that we are still
shooting during the holidays (and this also includes currently summer
holidays but the impact of VSU may change this).

For this friday, 14th July, there will be a slight change to normal.
I will be travelling to Wentworth Falls on the Friday afternoon to
compete on Saturday at the NSW State Indoor competition, because of
this, there will be no-one with keys in the afternoon.

However, I will be at university until ~2pm before I leave.
If you wish to shoot on Friday (and therefore also be responsible for
packing up properly), then please email me and let me know, and also
turn up by 1pm to St Paul's College Oval so I can open up and make
sure you know what you are doing (most of you already do, but just in
case).

So, if you want to shoot, please let me know and come earlier,
otherwise, there will be no shooting.

Dear All,

It is the time of the year for affiliations to be done.

The people I currently would like to affiliate are:

Myself
Kirsten
Rob
Nigel
Kate
Hugh

People who I would like to ask them to consider affiliating would be

Marissa
Brenton
James Shepherd (you get a full name mention cos there are a few
James in the club)
Luke
Adrian

The cost for affiliation will be subsidised by the club as we have
set aside money for it. However if you affiliate, you will
eventually require to shoot for the club at least in one event.
This event is typically the City of Sydney, and is the first Sunday
of December each year. It is a fairly fun and relaxing shoot so you
do not have to worry about being competitive if you are not that
competitive as a person. This means you will also need to get a
uniform and hat. Hugh has been wanting to get a uniform for a
while, but until we have enough numbers to make a order for a decent
price, it won't be happening.

If you want to get a uniform, even if you are not going to affiliate
and compete, you are most welcome to and they are really good shirts
to shoot in, especially summer.

If you wish to affiliate, please contact me via email or in person
during training.

Thank you for everyone who has helped with chocolates so far,
especially Duncan who has helped with 4 boxes.
We still have about half to go, so everything that we now sell is
profit funds raised. Please help out and be generous in your
chocolate addictions because it means more money that the club will
have to survive VSU legislation next year.

If you would like a box, please contact Kate (eileenklee @ gmail.com
remove the spaces before and after the @). I believe that we are
running out of mixed boxes so if you want mixed, you better get in
quick. I also believe we have quite a lot of the honeycomb crunchie
block boxes so if you know people who like honeycomb, grab a box and
find them. $48/box payable to Kate or Kirsten (but you must inform
Kate for book-keeping).

As we are approaching StuVac and Exams for first semester, please
note, we *WILL* be still shooting as per normal. This means if you
want to come down during your StuVac/Exam time and get your mind off
study for a little while, please do (weather permitting and special
events on the field as usual though). If you have anything you
would like to use as a target specifically, as long as it is in
paper/cardboard form (pictures of lecturers, past exam papers,
politicians) you're also welcome to bring them along to shoot at as
we can tape them to the targets.

Dear All,

We still have 19 boxes of chocolates available for those who are
interested in some portable sugar, a way to break the ice if you're
looking to make new friends, or just something to do besides study.

Thank you to all of those who have already bought your box of
chocolate and either are self consuming or attempting to sell them.

We can get you mixed and unmixed boxes, but the longer it takes the
more likely you will not get unmixed boxes so get in early if you
want them.

Please email Kate with what you would like before Sunday if you want
to get them next Tuesday or Friday!

$48/box payable to Kate. Her email is eileenklee @ gmail.com
(remove the spaces before and after @).

Marissa, your box is still waiting to be picked up and is in the
archery shed. It is a mixed box as you did not specifiy if you
wanted mixed or unmixed.

Please get involved and help the club out!

Hi Everyone,

Our Publicity Officer, Kate, has ordered the Fundraising Chocolates.

We will be getting in a mix of Freddo, Caramello, Regular Block, and
Honeycomb Block chocolates.

How this is going to work (as it has worked perfectly fine in the
last two years we have run it) is like so.

1) Contact Kate (eileenklee @ gmail.com) *remove the spaces in the
email* and say you want to sell chocolates.

2) Indicate in your contact that you would like a mix or unmixed box.
A mixed box will still have the same value of chocolates, but
contain a variety from those we are selling. The actual mix will
depend on what is available, and therefore you can not ask to have a
specific mix.

3) Indicate when you can come to Archery to pick it up.
If you can not pick it up during Archery, then you are welcome to
obtain Kate's address and pick it up directly from her house.
Otherwise, I will probably be the one to bring it in to archery.
*HOWEVER* As they are being delivered and stored at Kates, it means
a weekend must pass before any new requests can be filled.

4) Pay upfront the value of the chocolates to Kate. She will
collect all the monies and pass them to Kirsten.
This means the chocolates are 100% owned by you. Sell them, eat
them, give them away, do whatever you want. Most people sell what
they can, and then do the other options once they fail to sell them.
Each box will have the value of $48.

If we sell off all of the boxes, the club will make a profit of
$576.00 which is enough for almost 2 targets, or 3 new bows, or 80
large target faces, or 9 sets of arrows. So as you can see, it is
something most useful to the club.

We must sell a minimum of 12 boxes to break even, otherwise the club
will make a loss. So, please give it your all when selling the
chocolates. Family, friends around uni, total strangers, other
clubs, school kids on the train looking for a sugar fix.

We will let you know when to start placing requests.

Club League Compeition

The club league competition will start this coming week.
This coming week, May 8th Monday, is Week 0, so the practice week
and registration for the competition.

The cost is $5 for the competition.
The competition will run into second semester StuVac, whenever that
date is (so it's actually quite a long event and cheap if you think
about it).

The format:

Each week, contestants can (but do not have to) submit a score.

For Novices (Those who started this year)this score will be from 30
scoring arrows at 30m on the large 122cm target face. For those
using sets of 3 (which will be most people until we start
distributing sets) this will be 10 ends of 3 arrows, and for those
shooting 6 arrow sets, it will be 5 ends of 6.

For Open shooters (those who shot last year and more), it will be 30
scoring arrows at 30m on the small target face.

When shooting, they must be consecutive arrows, ie, you can not
shoot an end of arrows, see that they are bad shots, and not add
them into the score. That is called cheating LOL.

The top three scores that each contestant submits will be their
total score (so, if you shoot a lower score than one of the three
scores you have already submitted, you don't have to submit it as it
will not improve your total, but it should be kept as a indicator of
your progress). The one who has the higest top score will win a
prize purchased from the entry money. Which means, the more people
you can get to enter, the better the prize will be for the winner,
which might be yourself. There will be seperate prizes for Novice
and Open, with the entry money from each division's contestants.
So, the novices don't have to fear having their prize reduced by the
open class shooters.

If you wish to enter, you will need to pay $5 and sign up during
archery. You can also join into the competition anytime as long as
you pay the $5, but you just have less opportunity to submit scores
as scores shot before entry can not be counted.

Finally, this compeition relies on honesty as I can not go about
checking everyone's shooting and scores. Play fair.

Regards,
Don

Hi All,

In this edition, I will be mentioning a few things regarding uniform,
affiliation and the club competition mentioned at the AGM.

Uniforms

Those who want to order a uniform should do so now. Previously,
we've been able to get orders for 20 shirts for each year done at an
reasonable price. If we have less than 20 orders, then the price
will be more expensive. We also can not get a quote until we give
them a number, obviously.

Hats we already have, and are great at $15 each. We did shirts and
hats for $65 last year, and hopefully if we get enough shirt orders
we will be able to do that again (club subsidised price).

Please come talk to one of the executives with your name, email and
shirt size (women's sizes do exist!)

Affiliation

We will have to process affiliations for the 2006-07 season soon
(financial year cycle) with Archery Australia and Archery NSW. The
club requires a minimum of 4 affiliates to stay alive, but an optimal
number would be 10. If you are interested in competing in a few
competitions outside the club, then you should affiliate. The cost
is unknown, and will be determined once numbers are settled.

Club League Competition

We will start the competition Next Week!
Next week will be week 0 of the competition, and used as a
familiarity and practice week.
We will have two different categories, the Novices, and Open.
Novices division is for those who have started this year, and the
Open is for everyone else.
The format for the event will be finalised this week and I will give
details later.

And that is All for today.

There will be no shooting on Good Friday (14th April 2006).

As our training is at the grace of the warden's wife of St Paul's

Please be aware of this and inform anyone that you know who may not
be on the mailing list (it would appear quite a few people have not

There will be training next week during the holidays on Tuesday but
it will be final preparation for the Nationals, so you may have be
be careful and look out in case I am shooting 90m distance.

On the 21st April, training should continue, with Kate (Publicity
Officer) and Nigel (Committee) having key's to open up the lockers
for the sessions. This will also follow for Anzac Day (At their
discretion if they wish to have training) and on the 28th April also.

I have received an email that suggests due to wet weather on
Thursday, MedFac inter-faculty cricket may be played on St Paul's
Oval on Friday the 24th March from 1:30-4:30pm.

Unfortunately it is very late notice for me to confirm it with
anyone, but hopefully some of you may be able to get this email.

You are still welcome to come by to see if cricket is on if you have
nothing else to do.

The email I received is as follows.
-----
Hi all,

Unfortunately our cricket match was cancelled today due to wet
weather but
thanks to all the guys that turned up. The match has been pushed to
tomorrow at
1.30pm - 4.30pm. It means that those who want to play will miss only
the last
lecture, but that was the only time i could get. We had a pretty
good turnout
today but anyone who wants to play tomorrow please come down to St
Pauls oval
straight after the lecture that finishes at 1pm. Every one else
please come
down and support us before the usual trek to manning for friday
afternoon
drinks. Keep an eye on your email tonight and tomorrow in case there
are any
cancellations due to weather.

Keep it real

Dear All,

My apologies for the training today being cancelled. A cricket match
was booked until 6pm and played on the field after 2pm between Wesley
and St Andrew's Colleges.

Unfortunately, St Paul's College seem to not like informing us of
these types of events as we have continually asked them to keep us up
to date of the field for things like this.

We should be back to normal on Friday (fingers crossed).

Dear Members,

As the club has begun to shoot again, I would like to extend a warm
welcome to all our new members and returning members from 2005.

During O-week, we had 62 new members sign up and 7 new members sign
during the first two sessions, so a good way to start the year.
Hopefully as the year progresses most of you all will continue to
come and enjoy archery.

The two guess prizes during O-week have been won. The JellyBean
guess was won by Nigel Gan, with a guess of 1130, and the correct
number being 1131. Danya Rose won the weight guess competition with
a spot on guess of 2.77kg. Much thanks to all those who took part
in it.

This year, we will be having our club AGM on March 31st, a Friday,
at 2:15pm at the oval. We need a corum of at least 15 members
before a meeting can be held. At the meeting we will be electing
our new executive for 2006, discussing the effects of VSU on our
club, and also announcing/introducing some competitions for everyone
to take part in. In addition, due to VSU issues, we will also be
discussing fundraising efforts.

As I have mentioned to all of those who have come during last week,
please have some patience with us as we get you all an opportunity
to shoot. Our club equipment is limited, so please bear with us and
the potential to share with others. Those who did had a good time
and got to meet some new people.

Lastly, not wishing to spoil the way things are going, I would like
to just say, when you come, please have some common sense about.
Archery is a dangerous sport and you can get hurt, or hurt others by
accident. Our safety record has been impeccable so far and it would
be good to continue it so. This also includes listening to
instructions from those who are supervising and teaching you without
question as it is for the benefit of yourself and those around you.
Take heed, otherwise inappropriate behaviour may lead you to being
removed from the club.

If you have any questions, please don't hesistate to ask at training
or via email to archery@...

Once again, welceom to the club, and I hope this year will be a good
one for all.

Regards,
Donald Chiou
Sydney Uni Archery Club

Dear All,

O-week is upon us, being March 1st and 2nd next week. We are
required to have a stall (79, we have switched with some people from
rockclimbing/canoe) on the main lawns.

We would really appreciate if some people could find the time to come
along and help out.

Essentially, if you come and help, you try to convince people to sign
up and join the club.

This year, we will be running a Guess the Jellybean idea (run by
Kirsten) and possibly a 2nd competition for some extra fundraising as
the funding for 2006 has been cut by 15% thanks to Brendan Nelson and
Barnaby Joyce's opinions.

So, come along and join, and help out if you can.

This year's prices will be $10/year +$1/session (a raise of $2) OR
$15/semester (no change). This will help a little, and means we're
not scrabbling like mad for change like we did last year when people
tried to pay $8/year with $20 notes.

Once again, come and join up during O-week, and help out if you can.

Dear All,

The club will be subsidising entries for next year's National Archery
Championships. They will be held in late April in Victoria. The club
will assist with entry costs for the event, but travel and accomodation
is up to the individuals.

This year, we had a rather successful trip down with three members
attending, perhaps we can have the same if not more for next year.

For those who might think attending the nationals is a bit above their
shooting abilities, then don't worry. It's a great week to do some
shooting somewhere different, and to meet lots of other archers around
the place. And to check out the gear people have and are using.

If you're interested, please let me know.

Dear All,

With the immense amount of rain today, and it being exam week, there
will be no archery unless it clears up very quickly. The forcasts are
not looking positive. If you are in doubt, please call my mobile on

Dear All,

I have received an email from Malcolm Harrison who looks after our
training field.

The email excerpt is below
*****
Don

Over the next two weeks, the Inter-Coll Soccer and Softball series
have been scheduled for our oval.

Matches will be played as follows (subject to weather)

Fri 12 August 11am till 5pm - soccer
Mon 15 August 1pm - 5pm - soccer
Tues 16 August 1pm - 5pm - soccer
Wed 17 August 1pm - 5pm - soccer

There is a reserve day (in case of wet weather) on Friday 19 August.

We are hosting both men and women matches this year which explains
the additional days.

The Inter-Coll softball matches commence on Thursday 25 August and
continue on 26, 29,30 and 31 August. At this stage, I don't have a
match schedule.
******

Please be aware that there will be no training on those dates and
please let anyone that you know who does not receive these Yahoo
group emails know.

My apologies for the essentially month long - no shooting scenario.

The 19th and 23rd will be available, as long as wet weather does not
cause them to take the 19th as a reserve day.

Dear Members,

I would like to welcome you back all to another new semester for
archery.

First off, a big thanks to those who came to Uni Games, and also those
who have been during the holidays to shoot.

Secondly, the $15 semester fee for the semester paid members are due.
Please ensure you have correct change (preferably in notes if you can,
ie $5 or $5 and $10 notes). Those who are on the $8 membership you
can keep paying $1/session. Please pay Kirsten the money when you can.

The next event for most members is the club championships at the end
of the semester. The format is undecided as is the date, but we will
have more details closer to the event.

For those who have not picked up uniforms and hats, please come to

for them.

We will also have a meeting on Friday 8th July at approximately 2pm,
to go over last minute details for the competition on Sat and Sun 9th
and 10th July.

Please come and practice, even if there is poor weather, because if
there is poor weather during the event, we will still shoot on.

If you have not done so, you MUST give me your name and SID for
everyone who is competing in the Uni Games. This is required for
accreditation details.

Dear All,

For those who have ordered shirts and hats for the uni games, they
will be soon available (they are being delivered tomorrow sometime,
if we're lucky, before archery).

Could those who have not fully paid be prepared to bring money for
them when they come to pick them up, including for those who also
orderd hats.

For those who are shooting uni games (you can still enter if you have
not expressed interest prior to this) you must send me your name and
your student ID number so I can put you into the competitors listing.

Please do this before next friday 24th June.

Don Chiou

Dear All,

There will be no training this friday.
We will be busy setting up the range at Penrith Sports Stadium for
the Archery NSW State Indoor Championships.

It is being held on Sat and Sun at Penrith Sports Stadium, Herbert
St, Cambridge Park.
If you got nothing better to do, come on down and watch some of the
state's best archers duke it out in a perfect condition environment
(no winds to mess with you).

Current champion, Zoran Singarov will be attempting to break the
international record (and possibly a perfect score record) for the
event. It would be a historic event if he manages it.

In terms of StuVac, Exam and holiday training, we will still be
shooting.

There will be training as usual next tuesday, friday, and through
the entire exam and holiday period.

Those who have signed up for Uni Games should make all efforts (life
and limb) to come to these sessions as we will be starting to put
out targets at the competition distances for you to practice at.
It is important to practice the various distances so you know what
to expect at the competition.

Those who want stress relief during StuVac and Exams are quite
welcome to come for a shoot, and they can even bring their own paper
cut-outs of lecturers or exams and plug away at them.

If you know of people who are not receiving this email, then please
forward it onto to them and get them to join up to the group.

Questions, comments, please email me.

Dear Members,

I have received notification from SUSport regarding the use of St
Paul's oval for today's session.

The field will be "Closed" for today due to the wet weather.
Generally it is not a problem for us, however the email was also
circulated specifically to St Paul's college staff, which means they
know that it is specifically closed. I believe it is to maintain the
grass for the matches this coming week.

Due to this, there will be no shooting today, however if you have
nothing to do, pop by and check if anyone is there, as we may be
doing some repairs at the start of the session.

For those who receive this at the end of the day, my apologies for
the late notification, however I did not get notification until today
just before.

Regards,
Don Chiou
