Dear Members,

I would like to welcome you back all to another new semester for
archery.

First off, a big thanks to those who came to Uni Games, and also those
who have been during the holidays to shoot.

Secondly, the $15 semester fee for the semester paid members are due.
Please ensure you have correct change (preferably in notes if you can,
ie $5 or $5 and $10 notes). Those who are on the $8 membership you
can keep paying $1/session. Please pay Kirsten the money when you can.

The next event for most members is the club championships at the end
of the semester. The format is undecided as is the date, but we will
have more details closer to the event.

the practice you can.

For those who have not picked up uniforms and hats, please come to
these sessions so we can give them to you and collect your payment
for them.

We will also have a meeting on Friday 8th July at approximately 2pm,
to go over last minute details for the competition on Sat and Sun 9th
and 10th July.

Please come and practice, even if there is poor weather, because if
there is poor weather during the event, we will still shoot on.

If you have not done so, you MUST give me your name and SID for
everyone who is competing in the Uni Games. This is required for
accreditation details.

The people competing are:
Hamish Hill
Adrian Tchen
Patrick Zhuge
Joanne Zhang

Steven
Meghan
Emmet Chen
Don Chiou
Kirsten O'Hara
Robert Talbot
Ben Chin
Caroline McCombie
Regards,
Don Chiou

We will collect competition fees from you later, regardless if you
compete or not (because you all said you were competing at the AGM or
at a later date, not competing is not our control).

Currently the list of known other competitors are:
UNSW - 4
Macquarie Uni - 1
UTS - 1
UWS - 1

If you have any other questions, please email me.

Dear All,

For those who have ordered shirts and hats for the uni games, they
will be soon available (they are being delivered tomorrow sometime,
if we're lucky, before archery).

Could those who have not fully paid be prepared to bring money for
them when they come to pick them up, including for those who also
orderd hats.

For those who are shooting uni games (you can still enter if you have
not expressed interest prior to this) you must send me your name and
your student ID number so I can put you into the competitors listing.

Please do this before next friday 24th June.

Dear All,

There will be no training this friday.
We will be busy setting up the range at Penrith Sports Stadium for
the Archery NSW State Indoor Championships.

It is being held on Sat and Sun at Penrith Sports Stadium, Herbert
St, Cambridge Park.
If you got nothing better to do, come on down and watch some of the
state's best archers duke it out in a perfect condition environment
(no winds to mess with you).

Current champion, Zoran Singarov will be attempting to break the
international record (and possibly a perfect score record) for the
event. It would be a historic event if he manages it.

In terms of StuVac, Exam and holiday training, we will still be
shooting.

There will be training as usual next tuesday, friday, and through
the entire exam and holiday period.

Those who have signed up for Uni Games should make all efforts (life
and limb) to come to these sessions as we will be starting to put
out targets at the competition distances for you to practice at.
It is important to practice the various distances so you know what
to expect at the competition.

Those who want stress relief during StuVac and Exams are quite
welcome to come for a shoot, and they can even bring their own paper
cut-outs of lecturers or exams and plug away at them.

If you know of people who are not receiving this email, then please
forward it onto to them and get them to join up to the group.

Questions, comments, please email me.

Dear Members,

I have received notification from SUSport regarding the use of St
Paul's oval for today's session.

The field will be "Closed" for today due to the wet weather.
Generally it is not a problem for us, however the email was also
circulated specifically to St Paul's college staff, which means they
know that it is specifically closed. I believe it is to maintain the
grass for the matches this coming week.

Due to this, there will be no shooting today, however if you have
nothing to do, pop by and check if anyone is there, as we may be
doing some repairs at the start of the session.

For those who receive this at the end of the day, my apologies for
the late notification, however I did not get notification until today
just before.

Dear Members,

Just a reminder for the club AGM tomorrow. The AGM will be held at
2pm and if there is bad weather, we will have to hold it probably in
the archway of St Pauls College as there isn't any other venue nearby
available to us for the meeting.

The Agenda for the meeting will be covering:

Election of 2005 committee
Australian Uni Sport Archery Championships
Affiliation
State Indoor
Uniforms
General Housekeeping
General Business

Please make it if you can as it is the only official meeting we have
a year (besides the meeting for uni games competitors).

1. AGM Notice

This is a reminder that next friday afternoon at 2pm is the club AGM.
Please try to come and attend as we require a minimum of 15 people
present before the meeting can be held.

There are dire consequences if we can not hold the AGM and they will
effect everyone.

2. Uni Games
We are currently in the process of preparations for the University
Games. It will be on the 9th and 10th of July (so far) at Homebush
Archery Park.

I would like to ask that everyone who comes regularly (at least once
a week) to compete in the event. The cost will be approximately $40
entry for the two day event (it will be subsidised), and you would
also require a uniform $40 for a shirt (subsidised already) and $15
for a hat (if you wish to wear a hat at the event, it is highly
advised, also subsidised already ).

Those without transport to the event hopefully will be able to have
transport with car pooling etc.

In the next few weeks we will begin setting up to shoot and practise
the longer distances required for the competition, and thus regular
practise is well advised.

Sydney University has always had the largest number of competitors in
the competition. It would be a sad affair if the host club (us) had
a low and poor turnout. All of the members in the focus group will
be attending unless they have good reason, and anyone who wishes to
be part of the focus group in second semester should also attend the
competition.

3. Affiliation
Affiliation to Archery Australia and Archery NSW will also be
happening very soon. This will entitle affiliated members to compete
in State and National events, as well as cross training at other
clubs for by paying visitor fees instead of full memberships. The
members of the focus group will also be affiliated, and those who
wish to be can also appy. It is $86/year, but the club last year
subsidised the fee so affiliated members only paid $16. Well worth
it if you have the competitive spirit as you can borrow club
equipment to shoot with in competitions.

4. Shirts
Louis Lee
Janet Diep
Katie Xia

You three need to pay the remainding money ($30) and pick up your
shirts. I will bring them to the AGM, so please come along to pay
and get them.

Those who are wishing to compete at uni games and affiliate will also
require shirts if you do not have them
To make an order, we require a minimum of 10 shirt orders, otherwise
the price becomes $59/shirt (they charge extra for small runs).
Having more than one shirt is good as I have 3 (useful when you shoot
7 days in a 10 day period). We will be also collecting orders for
shirts at the AGM session. Please keep that in mind. When ordering
a shirt, you will need to pay a $10 deposit (so long as we get 10
orders).

Dear All Members,

This is the second AGM attempt.
The notice is for the Friday 13th of May.
We must hold an AGM on this date.
We will require 15 members to be present.

If all of you can come to this, it would be greatly appreciated.

2pm at St Pauls Oval, Friday 13th May.

VSU - Voluntry Student Unionism.

I attended a meeting held by SU Sport regarding the inpending doom
of legislation the government is attempting to bring in.

What does this mean for the club, and what does it mean for you as
members of the club?

It means the loss of funding and services.
We receive $4000 of funding from SU Sport approximately each year.
In addition to this, we raise funds from membership fees, range fees
and competitions.

With VSU, we stand to lose the funding from SU Sport entire,
therefore we would have no choice but to increase our club
membership fees and be similarly priced to other non university
archery clubs in sydney. These clubs charge anywhere from $140-
$240/year to keep their operations happening.

If you wish to have a club, please support any anti-vsu events
happening. There will be a ralley on next week on the main lawns
sometime, so if you wish to, please participate.

Further more, we have been asked by SU Sport to write to our local
members of government (State, Federal, Senate) who are in the
Liberal/National Coalition, and express ourselves (in a polite
manner) with our situations, and personal stories of how VSU will
effect university life and the sport we enjoy.

Hey, it's the first for legitimate spam! So, if anyone can find out
John Howard, Brendan Nelson, Peter Costello's email address, and
wishes for the rest of the club to also know, please let me know
what it is, and I will happily forward it on to everyone so we can
let him know how we feel about VSU.

Dear Members,

Due to a rather dissapointing turn out at the AGM on Tuesday, the
numbers did not meet the required corum and the meeting was not held.

Due to this, the meeting will be rescheduled at a later date, where
hopefully we will meet the requirements to hold our AGM.

****As one of the things to be announced and discussed during the
AGM, I am informing you all that there will be no training from the
1st April until the 8th April. This is due to some of the executive
going to the National Championships in Melbourne. Training will re-
commence as usual on the 12th April.*****

Other things that should be considered in this time is Uni Games,
Affiliation and the Focus groups.

Uni Games - I will be requiring expressions of interest to compete
against other universities. They have different categories from the
novices to the experienced.

Affiliation - Those who wish to be affiliated to compete in
competitions outside the club and also to shoot at other clubs, you
will need to let me know so we can arrange subsidies and payments.

Focus group - I will be holding focus group sessions once a week for
a small group. We will be looking at shooting form and techniques
and how to improve each person's abilities. It will be a progressive
series of sessions and we hope to be using some digital photography
to assist in the sessions. If you are interested, please let me
know, as the number I can look after in a session may be limited.

And as the last item on the agenda, the Raffle for the set of Jazz
arrows was drawn on Tuesday, with the winner being Julian Young. His
was the 3rd ticket drawn as the other two were not present.

Dear Members,

This email is to inform you all of training arrangements for this
week.

Below is an extract from Malcom Harrison, the manager for the field
at St Pauls Oval.
*****
Don

The reserve day for cricket is tomorrow so you can expect lots of
cricket and no archery.

The Warden has agreed to your request to use the oval on Friday. It
should be pretty quiet. He has asked you to observe your usual
discreet procedures and to be aware that the occasional college
resident may appear on the oval during the day.

Regards

Malcolm Harrison
*****

What this means is for Tuesday, the Rawson cup cricket matches will
be on, and there will be no archery, as the same as last week.

Since Friday is a public holiday (Good Friday), normally we would not
be shooting, however in compensation for Tueday, the Warden has
agreed for us to shoot, as long as we are quiet and do not make a
fuss on the field as it is a day of rest.

So, to re-iterate, Tuesday no training, Friday quiet training.

1. Rawson Cup Cricket

As we did not have training on Tuesday due to the Rawson Cup (College
sports competition) we were also informed that next Tuesday 22nd
March was reserved in case their remaining matches were affected by
the weather. As the weather is absolute shite today with the rain,
we will get shafted again and THRERE WILL BE NO TRAINING NEXT TUESDAY.

These events occur unfortunately, and as we are on the field at the
good grace of St Paul's College, we have to bear it.

2. Wet Weather

As it is raining today, and it is forcast for rain tomorrow, there is
uncertainty if there will be training tomorrow.

Those who are die-hard and wish to shoot can come at 2pm and see if
there is anyone there shooting. If it is only very very light rain,
there is a chance we will still be shooting, but it is not a
definite. If you wish to call and check, you may call my mobile
number on 0403 158 599 after 1:15pm (I have dissection demonstration
work until 1pm).

As winter approaches, wet weather conditions will be more frequent,
so be prepared for this, especially if we start shooting during a
session and then the rain comes.

3. Chocolate Sales

As you all would know from the poll email, we have been selling
chocolates for fundraising in the past. Each time, the club has
earned $480 in profits, which is half the amount required for one
competition level bow kit.

Chocolate sales are $40 a box, and the seller pays for the box
upfront. This means you can sell the chocolates (or eat them) at
your own pace, and we do not have to chase you up for money. This
system has worked well in the past, and will be what we will use
again if we decide to fundraise with chocolates again. The result
will be announced at the AGM.

If you haven't voted yet, please do.

4. Nominations for Committee

At the AGM, we will be voting in our new 2005 Committee.
They will be the executive officers that run the club events and help
the rest of the club develop.

The positions on offer are: [Current holder]

President [Don Chiou - Me]
Vice-Presidet (to the first runner up of the President vote)[Adrian
Tchen]
Secretary [Robert Talbot]
Treasurer [Kirsten O'Hara]
Equipment Officer [I have no idea since they didn't do anything in
2004]
Field Captain [Dan Bray]
Publicity Officer [Gerard O'Connor]
Committee Member x 3 [I can't remember their names but Jade and
Hamish were two of them]

I would like to encourage everybody to consider themselves and their
friends in the club for a position. We always like to have new faces
in the committee to help out and bring fresh ideas and methods, and
as people finish at uni and move on, the positions need to be filled.
The major positions (President, Secretary, Treasurer) are probably
better left to more experienced members, however, if you wish to run
for those positions, then by all means please do.

Nominations will be accepted until the start of voting at the AGM.
Nominations can be sent to me via email with the name, SID and email
address with what position that you or the person is being nominated
for. Nominations in person will also be taken at the AGM.

Those nominated must be present at the AGM to confirm their
nomination, or write to me to confirm their nomination. This is to
prevent shafting someone into a spot they don't want to be in.

5. AGM Reminder

As a reminder, the AGM will be held on the 29th March. This is
during the Easter vacation. Which means, no classes to get in the
way. If you have work commitments and the alike, and you wish to
come to the AGM, then please try to move the times around for your
work.

The AGM currently will be held on St Paul's College Oval. If the
weather is bad or forcasted to be bad, I will send out an alternative
location for the meeting.

Please remember that you must also be present at the AGM to claim the
raffle prize.

At the AGM besides voting in the new executive committee, we will be
discussing Uni Games, club purchases, and other items. If you have
anything you wish to be brought up and discussed at the AGM agenda,
please email me with them.

6. Affiliation with Archery NSW

Affiliation with Archery NSW is very important if you wish to compete
in any State/National/Internatinal level events. The affiliation
provides you with insurance to compete at these events and access to
training days, coaching courses and to be able to shoot at other
clubs depending on their visitors arrangements.

Last year, the affiliation cost was $86 from July-June. We will be
re-newing some memberships from last year, and we will be accepting
new memberships for affiliation.

The Club subsidies this affiliation cost. Last year, the club paid
$66 dollars out of the $86 required. The amount of subsidy will
depend on how many people are interested in affiliation.

If you are interested in becomming affiliated and competing regularly
(and there are events that cater for beginners and such divisions)
then please let me know. We will be processing these memberships in
late may to make the deadline for June.

7. NSW State Indoor

The Club hosted the NSW State Indoor last year at the Penrith
Basketball Sports Stadium. This year, the club is once again the
host for this event.

If you wish to compete in it, you will be required to affiliate. The
event will be run similar to last year, and will hopefully be a 25m
and 18m round, with a total of 120 arrows shot through the day.

I would also like to ask for volunteers who can help out with the two
day event as last year, we struggled to run the event smoothly with 4
people from the club working hard to keep things afloat.

If you decide to volunteer, you will get free lunch for both days,
and your travel will be subsidised from where-ever you are coming
from up to a return train ticket value.

The currently set dates for the event is the 11th and 12th of June,
the weekend that StuVac starts, and there will also be some help
required on the night of the 10th June to set up.

Please let me know if you are interested.

8. SU Kendo & Kumdo

As the last item in this issue, I would like to introduce to the club
another club who is seeking some publicity. SU Kendo is a new club,
having only started in October 2004. They are currently funded under
Clubs and Societies (University Union, not Sports Union) and
therefore many people are not aware of their existance.

Kendo/Kumdo (Kumdo is Korean Kendo) is an ancient martial art with
the way of the sword.
Membership to the club is $5, and their beginners course is $20.
The club has limited equipment but they can assist with the purchase
of shinai(the bamboo swords) that are used for training.

They currently train on Tuedays 4pm-5:30pm, Wednesdays 4pm-5:30pm,
Fridays (can't remember the time) and Saturdays 3:30pm-5pm.

If you are interested, please contact John Ming-Jun Hsu at
jhsu6442@... for more information.

This is not to lose members, but to help build relations between
sports and clubs. If you can't make it to archery until late in the
session, then perhaps you may be interested in visiting Kendo, or
come and shoot for 2 hours until Kendo starts, and then go over there
for some sword martial arts. =)

Dear Members,

I would like to offer the sincere apologies of myself, St Paul's
College and the Grounds staff of Sydney Uni Sport regarding the
sudden cancellation of training due to the college Rawson Cup
Cricket event.

I was not previously informed of this happening and the breakdown of
communication was located to be with the grounds staff who had
forgotten we were not shooting on the Square (as we used to be) but
now on St Paul's College Oval.

I am very sorry if many of you were inconvienced by this event.
The Rawson cup is scheduled for 2 more fixtures, Thursday this week
and Monday next week, however, if wet weather washes out either or
both of those days, next tuesday, 22nd March will be used by them
for cricket. If the weather stays fine for both days, then we will

For this Friday, things are as normal. There will be training so
please do come if you can.

Dear Members,

This is a special notice email regarding a sponsorship offer the
club has received.

In order as part of our consideration processes, I would like to
take the views and comments of our members.

There will be a poll available through the club's yahoo group
website under the polls link. Please be sure to visit and put your
preference in.

If you have any comments you wish to share with the other members,
please email them to me and I can pass them to the members. Unlike
other group mailing lists, this club mailing list is a closed list,
this is to prevent spam of pornographic material and other scams.

The proposal:

The Royal Hotel (located on the corner of Abercrombie and Butlin
Ave, just past the Noel Martin Aquatic Centre and the International
Office) is offering a recipricol sponsorship agreement.

The following is taken from their propsal document

**************************
Our proposal to the Sydney University Archery Club for sponsorship
in return for patronage of the Hotel on a regular basis is as
follows.

1. $500 sponsorship up front.

2. 5% Of Money spent on Bar & food by the Club players, management &
supporters to be pooled in a kitty to be given to the club in cash
quarterly. This is monitored and recorded by member's cards which
can be issued to each individual to be used at every purchase. This
allows money spent to be recorded and builds up the funds for the
Club. We can also group individuals into teams to run team incentive
prizes for teams that frequent the Hotel the most and other prizes
such as the biggest drinker award, even the biggest eater award. We
currently use this system for members so they are rewarded for their
patronage and redeem points for product. I believe this is the
fairest way to start a new relationship and can be monitored to
ensure both parties are happy.

3. Each member and or supporter becomes a Royal Hotel Loyalty member
for free and can participate in the many promotions we have through
out the year.

4. The Royal Hotel Darlington is the Exclusive Food & Beverage
sponsor of the Club and Promoted to the Club and its supports.

5. Prizes can be arranged for Best on Ground for each team each week.

6. Discount to Club Players, Management & supporters for any private
or business function.

7. A location in Kings Cross, Vegas Hotel, to go to after the Royal
shuts at midnight that will have free access to all Club members.

8. Flexibility in negotiating sponsorship to ensure a good
relationship.
*********************

We currently have a Happy Hour agreement with The Well located at
Sydney Uni Village where our members can obtain cheaper drinks
during 5:30-6:30pm Fridays after training with presentation of their
membership cards.

We do not know yet what "regular patronage" is defined as (once
weekly, twice weekly etc etc) so may be a factor.

As the turnout last Friday at the Well wasn't very high, I hope that
the response to this might be a little better at least on the voting
side.

If you could please visit the polling section of the club group
website, please vote and let us know what you think.

A decision will be made at the Club AGM.

Dear Sydney University Archery Club Members,

In this edition:

1) Week 1 Training Sessions
2) General information
3) Social Events
4) Uniforms
5) Files

*****

1) Week 1 Training Sessions.

I would like to welcome everyone to a new year with the archery
club. This year, we have 60 new members joining up during O-week,
which has been lower compared to previously however we shall not be
expecting that to be a problem at all. If anything, it means you
will have a better chance of doing more shooting than if there were
more members.

Due to the fact that the club does not have enough equipment for
everyone to shoot simultaneously, I would like to request that
people be patient when they come to training.

Not everyone can come to the same times or days, so there will
always be an opportunity for you to shoot at some stage. In the
meanwhile, there will be some stretch bands available for you to
play with and to build on your shooting strength, and you should all
take the opportunity to meet other club members and get to know each
other better.

As a reminder, Training times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 2pm until
4:45pm (so we can be packed up as best we can by 5pm so those who
may be using the field after us don't get upset at us).

2) General Information

Please be prepared to bring your own water.
The club has some umbrellas for shade, but it can get very hot out
on the field, so if you can wear a hat or have your own shade, it
will be better for your own protection.

There are bathrooms however they are located at the cricket
pavillion at the far end of the field (closest to City Rd). If they
are locked, please come tell us so we can arrange for them to be
open.

Those members who did not get membership cards when they joined,
please bring your reciept and a membership card will be issued to
you.

Those with PPS (pay per shoot) membership should please remember to
also bring their $1 for the session. Exact change would be greatly
appreciated.

3) Social Events

We are currently in negotiation with Sydney Uni Village to have a
Happy Hour at the Well (it's the bar at SU Village on Carrillion
Ave). If it goes to plan, there will be Happy Hour there from
5:30pm to 6:30pm on Fridays for club members. You will either need
your membership card, or another form of identification to the club
(to be confirmed). This will be a great way to wind down at the end
of the week after some shooting, and good to get to know other
members more, and as drinks before dinner or something down Newtown
etc.

4) Club Uniforms

The club uniform is a very important piece of clothing if you intend
to compete or shoot regularly. It is designed specifically for
archery and is currently the same design as used by the Australian
Institute of Sport Archers. It has a UV protection rating and does
not flap about in the wind (which is very important).
And they look great.
(Pictures of them can be seen at the club website at
www.toxicrabbit.com/archery)

And it comes in mens and womens sizes from S, M, L, XL, XXL.
The club subsidies the cost of the uniforms so you are only paying
$40.

We are also currently in the process of obtaining some club Bucket
Hats. They are well suited for archery being low wind resistant and
providing maximum shade for shooting with.
They will be $15 each.

If you would like to purchase any of the uniform items, please let
me know or tell us during training so that we can include you in
numbers when we next order.

5) Files

Please take the time to poke around the Yahoo Groups website. Log
in as a member, and browse through the links and files for some
information regarding the sport, and what is out there.
There are some excellent files including the group check chart which
can be used to plot your shooting progress.

The other information such as the database is outdated and will be
redone eventually.

If you have any other questions or comments, please do not hesistate
to ask.

Dear Club Members,

St Pauls College Oval will be held under military security from the
25th of January to the 11th of Febuary due to the Edinbrough
Military Tattoo. I have been informed that there will be no access
to the facilities at St Pauls for the duration of this period as the
tattoo members shall be rehersing for their performances.

As for military security, that is real and I have been also informed
not to take it lightly as members of the armed services personnel
will be performing their security tasks for this duration (whether
they be armed is a different matter.....)

Due to this, our equipment will be temporarily relocated back to the
Square for this time, and there will be no training, as Campus
Security ingrates have deemed it unsafe for us to train on any other
location for this period of time.

Those who have equipment in the club lockers and would like to
retrieve it before relocation on Monday morning should do so
tomorrow, lest it be stored away for 2 weeks without access.

Those who wish to visit other venues with club equipment should come
by training tomorrow and borrow their equipment. There is a $20
deposit required for safekeeping.

Training should resume as per normal after this period.

O-Week 2005 dates have just been announced, and are on the Wednesday
2nd and Thursday 3rd of March. Volunteers for these days to help
out on the stall would be greatly appreciated, and we will be
attempting to hold some demonstration - try out shoots during those
two days also. If you wish to help, please let me know.

1. Club Championships.

The turnout for this years club champs was a little on the
dissapointing side, and the weather did not help much, but for the
very few who did turn up, the event turned out to go well and some
good shooting was seen.

The winner for 2004 was Alex Norman, with a highest score during the
ranking shoot giving him a handicap of +0, still continued to shoot
brilliantly to take on all others in matchplay style shoot-offs to
win. His prize will be free membership for 2005.

Those who did not turn up, certainly missed out on a great day of
shooting (weather excluded as I know some people will complain about
it). =)

2. City of Sydney Championships

This years City of Sydney Championships has been the most successful
for the club yet. The club had seven entrants into the event, and
they all shot to their full capacity bringing on some great results.

In the 1st grade Recurve division, Alex Norman scored himself into
3rd place with a very close finish, 2nd place only points away.

In 3rd grade Compound division, James Shepherd won 1st place, going
home with a certificate, commemorative spoon and complimentary
bottle of wine, while shooting barebow compared to others in his
division who were shooting freestyle (with sights etc).

And in Barebow Recurve division, Dan Bray also won 1st place, also
with certificate, spoon and wine, once again defending his title.

Overall for the club, we came 2nd, losing out to Sydney Olympic Park
archers by a fair margin. However, we were able to hold off other
clubs quite well.

Next year, hopefully the club will be able to field more archers
into this event, and bring home more and better results.

Congratulations to all who shot and their results.

3. Holidays

As previously mentioned, the holidays for most students are here.

We still shoot on Tuesdays and Fridays, 2pm to 5pm on St Pauls Oval
(Behind Physics and Edward Ford Building), just in case some of you
forgot where we were. There will be shooting right up til the 23rd
December, and shooting will resume from the 5th January onwards.
For those who can, it would be great to see you out there shooting
again. The club does now have a small number of beach umbrellas
that provide some shade from the hot weather, so just bring
sunscreen and plenty of water for the afternoon.

Hey, if it's holidays and you are bored, then come on down for a
shoot.

And this ends the edition.

1. As exams are now over, the university undergraduate calander is
on holidays. The club will continue to shoot through the break,
with the exception of christmas and the university shutdown period
from the 24th of December to the 4th January.

Our training times will remain the same, so those who wish to do
some shooting during the holidays are most welcome to, as long as
there is someone to open up.
If you intend to come, please email me so I know that you wish to
shoot and I will ensure that someone (most likely me) will be there
to open up for you.

2. Club Championships

The club championships will be held on Thursday, 2nd December. We
will be endevouring to start around 9:30am, so that most of the
shooting can be done before the hot afternoon kicks in. The club
has recently purchased some beach umbrellas and they do provide a
small amount of shade relief from the hot weather.

People who I would like to come to the club champs are those who
competed in the uni games. So you know who you are.
Even if you haven't had any practice for ages, it doesn't matter, as
it's just a fun social event to finish off the club calander year.
It's also a minor fundraiser for the club with $5 entry.

The prize for the winner of the club championship is free membership
for 2005.

Due to this, Tuesday's practice session is a good time to come and
shoot to get back into the swing of things for Thursday.

Please do come if you can, as the more the merrier.

3. City of Sydney

The City of Sydney Championships is being held at Latham Park,
Coogee/Maroubra. The event will begin at 10am with the first round
of the Double Canberra. For those who are not competing and have
nothing better to do on the 5th December (Sunday), then please come
down to watch and support your fellow archers, and it's also a great
opportunity to meet other archers from all ages and shooting
experience.

Those who are competing, who would benefit from your support are

Alex Norman
Dan Bray
Don Chiou
James Shepherd
Kirsten O'Hara
Malcom Barry
Robert Talbot

4. 2005 AGM and Committee

I would like to mention early that in 2005, the club Annual General
Meeting will be held approximately 3 weeks after the first week of
university (whatever date that is...)

This is a good time to start thinking about it, as we would like to
see some continual fresh blood into the committee with new ideas,
and so as people move on with life, the club won't fall into a empty
hole when everyone leaves in the same year.

A prime example is Rob Talbot, this year's Secretary, as a new
member to the club, he has done a fantastic job, especially with the
organisation of the NSW State Indoor tournament, held this august.

More details will of course be provided in the new year.

5. Christmas Tidings

For those who the club shall not see again, as life takes them
elsewhere, I would like to wish you a great summer break, and best
of luck to you all in the future.

For those who the club shall see again, hopefully sooner than later,
have a well deserved summer holiday, and we shall see you all again
next year.

1. Exam Period

I would like to wish everyone well and good luck in their upcoming
exams for this semester.
This is the last week of semester before StuVac begins and then
exams.

For those who do not have exams, or have their exams rather down pat
and would like to come and shoot, we are still around and shooting
at our regular times from 2pm to 5pm Tuesdays and Fridays.
And if you need a break from study to get some stress relief, just
bring along your own paper target (a photocopy of a lecturer, Freud,
a cyclic chain, whatever) and shoot at it.
----

2. Australiasian Police Cricket Championships.

From the 22nd November to the 28th November, there will be the
Australiasian Police Cricket Championships. They will be using St
Pauls Oval, St Andrews Oval, St Johns Oval, No.1 and No.2 Ovals.
Due to this, we will not have training on Tuesday 23rd November and
Friday 26th November.

Please be aware of this.
---

3. Club Championships.

Due to requests for the event to be held after exams, and the police
cricket championships, the Club championships will be held on
THURSDAY December 2nd.

*THURSDAY 2nd December*
10am start
$5 entry.

This is to accomodate the Friday 3rd to practice for those competing
in the City of Sydney event.

The championships will be a little different this year compared to
previous years, with a change in format.
We will be shooting a 50m distance on the large target face (122cm).
The championship will be fought with a handicapped matchplay and
ranking shoot.

We have decided to move to this format so that members who don't
have as much time to shoot still have a chance in making an impact
in the competition.

Ranking shoot - There will be 6 ends of 6 arrows (36 total).
The total score from these ends will rank the archers for the
matchplay.

Handicap - The archer's score will be used to determine a handicap.
The handicap is = 360 - (ranking score) x 0.1 [Rounded down]
This handicap will be added to the matchplay scores.

Matchplay - Each archer will shoot off another archer as dictated by
the ranking ladder. There will be 3 ends of 3 arrows (9 arrows
total). The handicap will then be added at the end to the total
score.

e.g.
Rob shoots 300 in the ranking.
Rob's handicap is 360-300x0.1 = +6
Rob shoots 81 in the matchplay, thus his total score is 81+6 = 87.

Don shoots 275 in the ranking.
Don's handicap is 360-275x0.1 = +8.5 (Rounded down) = +8
Don shoots 75 in the matchplay, thus his total score is 75+8 = 83.

Therefore Rob wins the match.

There will be a ladder of matchplay rounds to determine the club
champion.
----

4. Holidays

As usual, we will be shooting during the holidays, weather and
special St Pauls events withstanding.

If you are coming, with a predicted hot summer, please remember to
bring plenty of water and sunscreen for your own protection.
----

5. City of Sydney

For our affiliated members, I would like you all to enter the City
of Sydney Competition. A few of you are affiliated, but most likely
not enter a single competition. This is one that I would like you
all to enter, and also next years State Target event, in return for
the affiliation the club has paid for.

It is held on Sunday 5th December, at Latham Park, Coogee/Maroubra.
It is a double Canberra, also known as a double FITA900.
The format is 60m, 50m, 40m, with 30 arrows at each distance, and
all shot on the 122cm large target face. And it is shot twice, once
before lunch, once after.

The costs are going to be hopefully subsidised by the club.
For those who are going to enter, please let me know so we can work
out the subsidy amounts. Those entering will also receive more
information later.

Once again, good luck for exams!

See you on the field.

1. Range Fees

As previously mentioned, the range fees for 2nd semester are now due.
Those who are $8 members do not need to worry, but those who were
previously $15 members, we would appreciate if you could pay your
membership as soon as possible as club funds are running low and
your monies would assist our operations greatly.

Please come and pay them as soon as possible, preferably this friday
if possibe.

2. NSW State Indoor

This weekend, 21st and 22nd August is the 2004 NSW State Indoor
competition. It is to be held at the Penrith Sports Stadium, at
Herbert St in Cambridge Park.

If you have nothing to do, please come along and help out and watch
some great indoor archery. There will also be a fundraising BBQ
(hopefully!) being held too. Plenty of spectator seating available
and entry to watch is for free!

There will be some of our own club archers competing at the event,
so supporting them would also be appreciated.

If you wish to enter as a late entry, be quick and contact Rob
Talbot at nswindoor@... with your details.

3. Affiliation

A final reminder to everyone regarding Affiliation.
Final numbers will be processed next week, and there may not be any
further availabilities for affiliation until next year.
Please contact me with your details if you wish to be affiliated for
the 2004-2005 season.

4. Wet Weather

As there is forcasted rain for the next few days, it has been
advised that the No. 1 & 2 Ovals and the Square will be closed.
Thankfully this does not effect us yet as we have not received any
notification that St Paul's is closed.
However if the rain is too much, there may not be any shooting.
If you are unsure, come by and check if there is anyone around who
is waiting for the rain to pass. On some occaisions depending on
the level of rain, we also shoot in light drizzle.

Release each. Alex Norman received a Titan Recurve Scope courtesy
of Leigh Cornish Titan Scopes. Chichi Lo received a $50 voucher
courtesy of Benson Archery Warehouse and Zhe Chan & Jenny Zhu also
receiving an armguard/fingertab combo from Benson Archery Warehouse.

Finally, thanks must also go to:
The staff at Sydney University Sport, for all of their help in
organizing the event,
The staff at Australian University Sport, for their help in
ratifying rule changes,
The volunteers and support crew from the Sydney University Archery
Club,
And finally, all of the competitors for making the event as
successful as it was.

2. Regular Training

As per normal, regular training is now back in full swing, with our
usual times of 2-5pm on Tuesday and Fridays.

Due to it being a new semester, and changing timetables for many
members, please do wait around at the start of the session if there
is no-one there at 2pm, as they may be getting there from some far
corners of the campus.

Those with keys are:
Adrian Tchen (Vice Pres)
Alex Norman (Former Secretary)
Dan Bray (Field Captain)
Don Chiou (President)
Kirsten O'Hara (Treasurer)

Hopefully one or more will be around as soon as they can to open up
and set up things for the session.

3. Affiliation

As also previously mentioned, we are now asking for calls to
Affiliation.

The current cost to you is yet undetermined as it depends on how
many members wish to affiliate.

Affiliation means you have insurance to cover you for entering any
Archery Australia and Archery NSW competitions and events.
If you affiliate, I would like to see you enter at least two events
during the course of the year. Either one ranking round or a State
title event (State Target, State Indoor, State Field) and the City
of Sydney Championships. These are not very difficult events, and
can be quite fun and enjoyable to participate in. They also have
division categories in some events to cater for novices/beginners.

Please come to a training session and see Rob Talbot about filling
out the form. Otherwise, email him at affiliation@...

4. Range Fees

As it is now second semester, we will be collecting the second
semester range fee of $15 for the semester, unless you are a $8
member. $8 members can upgrade by paying the $7 difference. If you
wish to stay a $8 member, then it is still the $1/shoot range fee.
Please pay Kirsten the next time you come with the money.

We still have a small number of boxes of chocolates sitting around
unsold, so if anyone would like to help a last ditch to sell them,
please let me know.

If you have any other questions and comments, please email me or
talk to me during training.

President.

End of Semester Edition
********************
1. StuVac Training
2. Uni Games
3. St Pauls Report Update
4. Affiliation
********************

1. StVac Training

It is the end of the semester, and StuVac begins next Tuesday.

The club will still operate in StuVac and exam period.

If you want to take a break from study, then please come on down to
the oval and have a shoot.

This is highly advised, and it is a great way to relax, and just get
your mind off a rather potentially stressful time at uni.

For those who are entering Uni Games, it is highly advised to come
and do some final training for the Uni Games, as it is only 3 weeks
away on the 5th and 6th July.

2. Uni Games

Training is still on, as stated in point 1.
Please come if you can as there are normally no more classes (for
most undergrad courses anyway) during StuVac period.

Anyone who is going to use Club arrows, and do not have a set
already assigned to them, must let us know, and come to training
before the Uni Games so we can allocate you one, and you can
practice a little with them before the competition. If we don't
have enough, we can make up a set for you quickly.

The quote for the shirts are in, and in order to pay for them, I
have already sent an email regarding payment.
Please pay by next friday as stated in the email.
Otherwise we may not get the shirts in time!

Those who are not entering the Uni Games, but don't have anything
better to do, and or are around Uni on the 5th and 6th July, please
feel welcome to drop by and cheer on your fellow archers.

3. St Pauls Report Update.

Our move to St Pauls is almost complete.
After Exams, we should have our new storage cabinets so that the
rest of our club equipment will be completely stored at St Pauls
Oval.

Once this is complete, we won't be requiring to move our gear back
and forwards from The Square storage area. We will be most likely
moving the gear in one go during a training session, so please be on
the look out for another email regarding this move. All the help to
get the gear moved would be much appreciated.

4. Affiliation

As stated during the AGM, we will be fielding positions of
affiliation for Archery Australia/Archery NSW.

Please email me, or tell me during training if you are wishing to
affiliate.

Conditions of affiliation are that you will attend at least two
events in the next 12 months that the affiliation covers:

The City of Sydney Championships(5th December 2004)
and the
2005 State Target Championships (Date unknown, 2005).

Both these events are very fun and friendly, and those who are
competing at Uni Games will already have uniforms. If you
affiliate, you will also require a uniform to compete in.

We will be subsiding Affiliation costs and uniforms (how much
depends on the numbers).
