A new version of WBTrader is now available
==========================================

The new version has some major changes which make it so much faster
and better to use.

The biggest change is that data is now loaded from the Westpac
Broking website in the background which means you can can now
refresh multiple windows simultaneously and still be doing things in
other windows.


Changes since previous version
==============================

* Multi-tasking Access

Previous versions of WBTrader have frozen when data is being
retrieved from the Westpac web site. v0.9 now retrieves data in the
background so you can continue to use the application whilst data is
refreshed.

* Market Depth

You can now show or hide the additional trading details shown in the
market depth window.

* Price Charts

All the options can be hidden or shown in one section instead of
three.

* Announcements

The previous version showed an incorrect number of announcements in
watch lists under certain circumstances. This has been fixed. Also
the ASX changed their site which meant that the previous version of
WBTrader could no longer read announcements. This has also been
fixed.

* Orders

Now when you place or ammend an order any open review orders window
will be refreshed automatically.


Future changes
==============

I am still working on an alerts feature where you will be able to
set custom alerts based on last price, buy or sell price, volume,
and announcement (price sensitive or any). I am also thinking of
alerts based on moving averages.

I may also highlight buy and sell orders in market depth windows.

Any comments on these or suggestions for new features welcomed.


Download WBTrader v0.9
======================

I have had problems making the new version install on some
computers. If you do install v0.9 I would be keen to hear back on
whether you had problems.

You can download the new version update here:
http://home.exetel.com.au/john_avis/wbtrader/downloads/wbtraderupdate
.zip

I suggest you make a copy of your current WBTrader folder then unzip
the update inside your WBTrader folder.

Then run WBTrader.exe which hopefully should work. If it returns an
error then try one of the following:

a) In the WBTrader folder double-click on GetHtml2.exe, this will
register this part of the application with Windows.

b) Open a "Command Prompt" window and change into the WBTrader
folder, eg:

      cd c:\program files\wbtrader

    Then type the following command to register one of the
application's files:

      regsvr32 timerlite.dll

c) If none of the above work please contact me for further
suggestions.

Version 0.8 of WBTrader is now available from:

A few minor changes have been implemented:

1) Chart settings are now remembered and can be saved permanently
using the File > Save Settings menu option.

2) Announcements are now shown in the watchlist as the number of
announcements followed by an exclamation mark (!) if any are price
sensitive.

3) A few more bugs fixed.

Still to come shortly is an 'alerts' system to warn when preset
price or volume limits are reached.

Westpac themselves just went offline a few minutes ago which explains the
missing watchlist and could cause a runtime error.

My own server where WBTrader gets its ads from has been running very slow
every now and then lately which has been causing a few delays and again, if
it happens at the wrong time, may cause a runtime error.

I expect my own server problems to be solved by my hosting company shortly
but can't do anything about Westpac's problems.

It's working now for me so should be ok for you now too hopefully.

I have made a slight change to WBTrader to hopefully fix that problem with
the orders.

When you next start or restart WBTrader it should tell you of the upgrade
and download the new file. You need to unzip the new file into your WBTrader
folder as usual.

A new version of WBTrader is now available.

You can download it from here:
http://www.geocities.com/john_avis/wbtrader/downloads.htm

If you are currently using v0.5 next time you start WBTrader it
should advise you of the new version and offer to download the
changed files (much smaller than the full download). You still need
to manually unZip the files and copy them into the folder where
WBTrader is installed.

Changes to v0.6:

* Changed data in a Watchlist is now shown in blue if highlight is
turned on in File > Options
* Various bugs fixed

Still to come:

* Improvements to charts
* Alerts
* Company Research

There is a fw things to keep in mind when using charts. The latest version
of WBTrader uses BigCharts.com charts and they will not produce a chart
under certain circumstances.

If you try and do a chart of more than 1 month with a less than Daily
interval you will get a blank chart.

So 1 month and above charts must have an interval of at least daily.

Hope that solves the problem. If it doesn't let me know.

Hi Mick,

When you read an announcement the program opens Internet Explorer (or your
default browser) to retrieve and display the ASX announcement. If the
browser is already open it may replace what ever page is currently displayed
in an open browser window. Not sure if I can specify a new window to open
but I will look into it. Thanks for your feedback.

positive when it should be negative. I couldn't work out why all the shares
on my watchlist were down this morning but the All Ords was up 65 points.
Then I realised there was yet another bug. Will have an update available to
fix that shortly. Still to come are the facility to view contract notes and
trading history, and to get company information...

An updated version of WBTrader is now available for download from:

The new version (v0.3) has some major changes. Installation is the
same as with previous versions but if upgrading from an earlier
version you MUST remove the file WBTRADER.INI as it may cause the
program not to start if an older version exists.

Some of the new features include:

* All data tables are now much faster.

* A new feature in preferences is to fade out the highlighted
changed stock codes in the watchlist and market depth. Looks much
nicer.

* Charts have reverted back to Yahoo! again.

* The automatic refresh feature has been changed, allowing greater
customisation of the interval between refreshes.

* You can now drag and drop to almost any part of a window rather
than just a text box.

* Many bugs fixed and unfortunately quite a few still exist.

Hi Mick,

Yes, you are right. The timer is not working properly in depth. I will fix
that now.

I have a new much improved version of WBTrader which I will release shortly
that will fix that problem and also display watchlists and other data much
quicker. I see Westpac graphs aren't working so I also have to switch back
to Yahoo! graphs.

I will let you know when the new version is available.

A new version (v0.2) of WBTrader has been released and is available
for free trial from the following link:

http://www.geocities.com/john_avis/wbtrader/update2.htm

The files can be unzipped into the same location as any older
version (if installed).

For new installations unzip the file wherever you wish to install
WBTrader (eg. C:\Program Files\). To run WBTrader simply double
click on WBTrader.exe. You may wish to make a shortcut on your
desktop.

WBTrader please email me.


Changes since v0.1
==================

* Multiple Windows

You can now have an many of each window open as you like. This means
you can have multiple Watch Lists open, multiple Market Depths, or
any other data window.

* Indices

View all the Australian market indices. Includes automatic refresh
facility.

* Charts

Charts now come from Westpac rather than Yahoo! which means no more
20 minute delay on Intraday charts. Now has automatic refresh
facility which is useful if you want to watch dynamic Intraday
charts.

* Orders

Scroll bars have been implemented onto the form so that the order
form can take up less space on the screen if required. An Ammend
Order facility has also been added which can be accessed through
Review Orders.

* Watch List

You can now right click on a stock code on the Watch List for a
popup menu. Then you can choose to place an order, view market
depth, last 10 trades, a price chart or announcements more quickly
than before. A new window will open up with the requested data.

* Snap to Other Windows

A new feature has been added which allows you to resize windows more
neatly. If you attempt to resize a window it will help you line it
up with other windows. This doesn't occur when you move windows,
only when resizing them.

* Preferences

Application preferences can now be accessed from the File >
Preferences menu. Presently you can turn on or off the yellow
highlight bar that indicates changes to the Watch List, or the new
feature "Snap to other windows".

* On-line Help

There is now some basic help when you click the Help > Online Help
menu.

* Status Bar

The status bar has changed significantly. There are three boxes. The
first shows whether you are Online or Offline to Westpac Broking
(this is correct as of the last time that the application attempted
to access Westpac Broking and may not always show the correct
status). The next box shows ACCESS when the application is
downloading information from the Internet or IDLE at other times.
The third box is the Advertisement Bar as described below.

* Various Bug fixes

Various faults have been fixed including resizing windows too small
which caused the application to terminate. Also default sizes and
positions of windows, even ones that have been closed, are saved
when you use Save Settings.


It looks like I will probably release a final version as free or
charge with a small text advertisement and link at the bottom of the
page that updates every 5 minutes. There is a trial of this feature
included in this release of WBTrader.

No personal information is sent or stored by WBTrader or
advertisers. The application simply requests a random advertisement
from an on-line database. If you click the advertisement the
advertisers web page will be opened in an Internet Explorer window.

I don't understand exactly what you mean. Does the error happen if you
minimize or maximize the main window? Not sure what you mean by two screens
showing?
