Re: [welshcobs] Insect bites on horses.

Hi Paula,
I think the recipe I'm using would really help. They say that it's the
allergy to the bites that affect some horses more than others and if the
horse is physically well and not lacking in anything he can build up an
immunity to the allergy. I notice that my horses still have small bites on
them but it's not turning them insane like it used to and it's quite
manageable to them. I am still trying to get the quantity sorted out. I
had them on a full measuring medicine cup (the ones you use on your kids)
twice a day and tried to cut it down by half and I have noticed that my cob
mare has started to itch slightly again, so I am returning them back to a
full one twice a day. I think this stuff is magic and as I said in my first
posting, even the horses in themselves are feeling a lot better. I feed
just cooked barley with lucerne hay as well and some members of our Pony
Club we attend, feed exactly the same thing.
We recently held our "Oldies Day" and you could point out each of those
horses that are fed this way just by how good they looked.
I hope you have some success as last year I could have sat down and cried at
the mess my horses were in.

Cheers
Veronica

Hi All!

I remember a while ago that there were a couple of queensland itch recipies
that people kindly shared - and I saved them - on my old computer :-( any
chance that someone might have them on hand or would like to share them
again? I have 2 friends with horses that have come down with Qld itch in a
really bad way and they are desperate to try anything that might work :-(

Veronica - do you know if that recipie would be any good for an "itchy" cob?
Griffon gets almost homicidal in his urge to scratch when ever he gets wet -
which is not good when you are the only available scratching post when you
enter the padock!! He is learning not to rub on me, but the problem is still
there for him.
Anyone have any ideas? herbally he is getting rosehips and garlic in his
feed, and the rest of his meal is oat chaff, lucern, with a handfull of pony
pellets and sunflower seeds for interest.

thanks
Paula.
