Hi all
update on mare Showtime, she has recovered fully, and hasnt aborted the
foal yet so Rob the vet is amazed and said looks like the foal must have
survived, so lets hope she holds on at least 2 more weeks so that Miracle
can arrive safe!

My goodness Deb, I nearly cried just reading that but I'm at work so I
held back :-) I am so glad she is Ok and I hope the foal is too.... Keep

Oh April, poor boy has lost his balls already! Very appt name,
, my news from Griffin Park has been quiet,On sunday had my best mare,
due
to foal in 8 weeks, developed toxiemia, acidoscis (I had never heard of
this before Sunday) , laminitis and chronic scours..due to grain
engorgement, she opened the feed shed and ate about 4 buckets of
barley...
I rang 5 vets, one told me twice, even when I begged her to come, there
was
no point as I would lose the mare and foal and she refused point blank to
come, finally 3 hrsand 20 phone calls later, got Rob to come....he saved
my mare by giving her 6 litres of paraffin via nasal drench and
painkillers
and anti toxin.He told me to watch for signs of shock, I put the foaling
alarm on her and waited....it went off about at 9pm, her gums were
purple,
she was sweating and shaking all over,her temp pulse her eyes were
glazed
over... I held her and cried with her all sun nite and monday morning,
telling her she wasnt allowed to die as we all love her, and she had to
prove the other vet wrong...it worked, she's getting better every
day...and
hasnt aborted her foal, so miracles do happen and thank god for Rob the
vet
who did his job. I have to wonder tho, what would happen if a doctor
refused to treat a patient? Surely vets are bound by a code of ethics to
at
least try...I wasnt going to just stand by and watch my daughters pony,
who
I took to the Royal Easter Show this year, who was about to give birth in
a
few weeks, to just die. She is still in one piece, hasnt aborted her
foal,
the vet Rob is amazed, just shows how sturdy and strong willed this breed
can be...fingers crossed, and I wont be taking her to Wingham All Breeds,
as want to keep her in one peice! Also vet said he had no way of telling
by
stethoscope if the foal is still allive, is there any other way?
