Re: [welshcobs] Re: G & P RPG Youngstock Show Results

Olivia you are so right C & D are completely different which is why our RPG is
trying our damdest not to combine them at our shows. But when no one turns up
anyway we are banging our heads against a brick wall. At our shows we have male
and female championships plus Supremes for both C & D. It costs a fortune for
the prizes we do give, and to have only one C and or D turn up makes it just so
frustrating and not worthwhile - for example it cost $6 to enter that one horse,
they win their class (naturally as they are the only one in it) - ribbon cost
$3.20 then they receive Champion - sash cost $8.00, then they receive Supreme -
sash cost 8.00 and trophy cost $22.00 as you can see financially for RPG's who
rely purely on fundraising activities its just not viable. With regards to
geldings you need to come to our groups shows - all of our shows have classes
for gelding of C or D breeding and have done for a few years now. Yesterday was
the first time we have had one of these entered and she went all the way to
Champion over the A & B geldings, she was thrilled (and what a lovely gelding he
was). We are running the Vic Feature show this year, gleding classes include C &
D. Our new show 'The Southern Pony Classic' has gelding C D classes.
Our group has worked hard and spent a lot of money to get seperate C & D classes
at Ags, the Ags do it for one year - have no cobs turn up so go back to
combining the classes if they have them at all the following year. Dandenong Ag
this weekend has seperate C & D championships, this is a sires rating and medal
show. Also C & D gelding. Our group has spent a lot of money to put this program
on so we will be counting the number of C & D that turn up with regards to
discussion on whether the classes are kept or not. I would have thought as far
as promotion of cobs with a view to selling stock and creating interest it would
be great to be seen at Agis where you have a whole new audience rather than just
sticking to All Welsh shows where you are preaching to the converted.
Putting my flame suit on now and hope to see you all at Dandenong.
Cheers
Lisa

Hi All,

I have been dying to respond, so here goes. I am not a cob breeder,
however I own a gelding and a mare and show most weekends down my way (
Barwon South Western Region, Vic.) As John Riley has said before the
C's and D's are very different, and most of the time the classes are
combined. It is very hard to compare the two. All the time at shows
the class my gelding enters is the welsh gelding over 12.2hh, so even
harder when comparing B, C & D. With increased numbers of cobs being
bred, and not all being kept as stallions there is a need to acknowledge
gelding classes. I don't go to shows where the judge is not on the
welsh society judges panel. I really don't mind competing my gelding
with stallions as long they are D's. I think the cost involved with
showing/travelling is a major factor why the numbers are low. I have
only entered one cob at the Vic All Welsh and the nomination and
stabling fees were over a couple of hundred dollars. I have put off
going to quite a few shows in order to afford competing at the Vic All
Welsh, maybe others have done the same thing in NSW. There is nothing
better than good competition which there is at the All Welsh Shows.

Hi Everyone, yes it is a shame when there isn't many ponies especially
cobs brought out I was at a show and actually had a non welsh person ask
me what that horse was it was a sec D mare she said she had never seen
one what a shame. There arn't too many around but I think there are more
than many think, its just that they don't get shown and as a commitee
member we are at our wits end trying to get the owners to show them I
realise that costs of everything associated with horses are high but
still many A and B ponies are getting out there but no cobs what are we
to do Cob owners what do you want what will it take to get your cobs to
the shows???
Cheers Donna.
ps:congrats to the winners on the weekend and interestingly the
champion gelding in ring one was a Cob! well done.

Hi Lisa,

It is a shame the cob numbers are so low but there aren't that many
out there. If you consider the number of A and B's that don't get to
many shows it would probably be a similar proportion. At the NSW All
Welsh there were 18 C and 20 D entered, the National Stud Pony Show
was held in Sydney this weekend, they held classes for C and D
combined and there were only 5 exhibits on the day, all those cobs
from 2 weeks ago had all scattered with the wind!

The results for the Nationals are

Ch Penybank Domain

res Niscinda Thadeus

The led classes were on at 9am then after waiting all day for the
ridden a big hailstorm blew in and they were cancelled (I have never
seen a car park empty so quickly)
