Hi Guys
Why not look into the option of collecting semen from him before you make the
decision of gelding him. I have just been researching AI for myself for the
part Arab, stockhorse and quarterhorse stallions. Apparently frozen semen can
last over 15 years. This will be my preferred option so mares and my stallions
do not get injured or have to have a break to serve mares during breeding
season.
Maybe just something to think about.

Hi Kathy,
A gelding can make a wonderful ambassador for the breed. Just think of the
promotion he will do for the breed in pony club. He'd probably have a much
happier life as well. You could always but another one. I noticed Grenwood
Express is for sale in WA and he is just gorgeous. A fabulous mount for
your daughter!
Seriously, I am trying to decide whether I geld a really nice colt here at
the moment or play with him for a while before gelding. He is so typey I
keep thinking what a waste as a gelding. But a very smart person once told
me "a good colt makes a fabulous gelding". I guess in the end practicality
will win out.
perhaps you could put a few in foal to your boy and then geld?
I understand your problem in finding stallions. Even though we are fairly
"spoilt" in NSw, the nearest stallion is still a 4-5 hour drive away.
I think the solution to your dilemma is to get a heap more cobs!!!
Good luck,
Melinda.
