Hi Kathy
Hope all is well with the bush fires now. Last season here we saw how
devastating they can be. Just wondering, do you lunge your colt with
a bit in his mouth and do you use just an ordinary lungeing whip?
This behaviour is really naughty and if you dont get on top of it ,
he will get on top of you. Would your hubby help if you asked him,
or someone else. We have had to a couple of times use 2 and
sometimes 3 people when trying to lunge horses like this. One to
lunge, always use a bit for control and one or 2 to keep the horse
going forward. We had one sent to us(now a beautiful riding horse),
who would actually attack the handler, rearing and striking, teeth,
feet front and back. So we had two people, one with lunge lead,
bitted,(a strong man) and one with a good strong long whip. At each
unasked for stop and I am going to get you look, he was hit on the
butt with the whip, sometimes not soft either. It was either this or
he would have really hurt someone. When he started to behave and was
asked to stop, the whip carrier, behind, dropped whip and went where
the horse could see him. He was then rewarded with lots of pats. It
only took a few days of perserverance and he finally decided to be a
good boy. You are to be congratulated on standing your ground as
they are very strong horses. The one we had scared the s... out of me
, so I left the job to the big fellas. We have used this method
twice on 2 pre-owned horses with major problems, it was either we
fixed them or the owners were going to dog them. We dont bash with
the whip either, we tap and let them know there is more than just the
poor person in the middle, for them to contend with lol. Both these
horses were fixed, one is a magic pony clubber. Good luck
