In that case I believe you need to stop giving him the benefit of the doubt
and send him off for some professional training, before he realises that
obedience and reasonable behaviour are totally optional.
I've handled lots of youngsters over the years, but am way past doing so
now,
and won't hesitate to get professional help.
There is not a lot of point trying to lunge him if you cannot even put gear
on him.
I'm not up with the story to know who he is or how long you have had him but
if its more than a few weeks he should be able to accept normal movements
and
handling by now.
He has worked out he can intimidate you, its way too late for Parelli games
or
such like.
If you don't have this problem fixed now it will destroy his future.
