Hi all,
just thought I would let you know what I am doing this weekend with Griffon
(Hillswood Morning Star).
I do medieval re-enactment and Griffon is going to his first training
event.... for Jousting! yay!
as Griffon is still young and growing - we will be only doing basic things
and taking it very easy! No jousting for him yet! but we will be doing some
training in ring spearing, javlin throwing and maybe - if he is ready for
it - we might have a go at the quintain (it is like a shield on a swivel
that you hit with your lance - it is part of the training that you do
before you even go near another horse for jousting). He will also be fitted
for his first costume :-) I am glad that he is good with that sort of thing.
Grif is very cool with things being waved around him and me doing silly
things - so it will be interesting to see how he goes in company - he should
be fine once he gets over his initial excitment. we went to a clinic a month
ago and he was sooooo relaxed that in the middle of the "everyone stand
around and talk with the instructor bit" Griff decided that he needed a
little lie down and a roll (he was in a halter only) - talk about casual in
company!!!! it was nice to sit with him and give him a scratch though - and
no cameras around as usual!
I just hope that he doesn't have too many of his "stop" issues and refuses
to move forward - sigh. I get him to move after a few seconds (usually) -
its usually an ask for a turn and then ask him to move forward and he
complies/ or else I make him back up.
does anyone have any ideas/hints/tips as to where I am going wrong or how I
can nip this little behaviour in the bud? Or is this just a cob thing?
He is young and has only been broken in 2 months ago - so he is constantly
trying things..
congrats Kim on you new cob!
chat ot you all later
