Hi all,
We've just had our first stallion experience this last season. While Step
On was a real gentleman and didn't cause any problems it was still good to
know that once the mares were pregnant he would go home. We had double
fences, double electrics - in fact his paddock resembled fort knox and my
theory was if he got out he deserved to get the mare!
I guess another advantage of not having your own colt or stallion is that
you are more likely to access a number of different bloodlines if you are
sending your mares out. It is quite nice to plan who the lucky boys will be
rather than be tempted to keep using your own stallion.
I guess if you are lucky enough to lease a colt or stallion for a short
season that also gives you a few more options. I hate the thought of
sending my Lily away - I'd rather have the boy sent here!
Good luck everyone at the royal.
Melinda.
