Hi Julie

Sarah was great, but Jack did pretty good as well. It was great to
see so many Cobs competing under saddle. Norm had a great old time
thats for sure and it was a pleasure to see them all smiling and
having a great time, which for many was just as important.

Thanks for your hospitality over the weekend and I hope Norm is
keeping those stallions out of the house !!! :-) he really does love
his boys.

I saw some lovely photos taken of him which I believe are now online at

http://www.dmossphotos.com.au/photos/photos.htm

We will also send semen chilled or frozen from Meilland Troubadour anywhere in
Australia until he is sold. Anyone interested in purchasing semen can contact
me at thefarm@... Please ensure enough notice is given to organise
collection and testing etc.

the book sounds like a wonderfull idea, but i agree, would be a nightmare
legaly.

as far as a sight for the sec a's n b's, hmmmm could be good
but i enjoy chatting to everyone that is involved with our welsh pony and cob
society...

im sure there are many people out there breeding cobs who "do" have an
interest in the a's as lots of the d lines go back to a's,
or our wonderfull welsh mountain ponys that have been used to breed with
the cobs.
hope you are all having a wonderfull day with what ever section you you are
enjoying at the moment,
cheers and kind thoughts to all
   dianne.

Scott Family Law <scottfamilylaw@...> wrote:
I would imagine that you will find most stallions in the Cob Handbook (OK I
didn't advertise this year, but that is only because I don't stand a
stallion any more), as virtually all breeders advertise there. The Welsh
Journal is also an excellent source of stallions, if a stud hasn't taken a
full page ad you will find stallions listed in the stallions at stud
section.
As far as A's go, maybe its time for someone to start up a website for A's
and B's. I think this one caters exceptionally well for Cobs, but like many
Cob breeders I just don't have any real interest in sections other than C &
D.
I don't think it is difficult to track stallions down nowadays as many studs
have their own websites with plenty of photos of progeny.
You will also find completely different strains of Cobs, and when you go
back 5 or 6 generations to find a match of Australian blood, I think that is
of no consideration at all. If no problems have arisen in those
generations, then they are unlikely to pop out of the woodwork.
There have been a number of imported animals brought into the country over
many years, from quite different strains.
You will, however, if you go far enough back in all pedigrees, find the same
Cobs, whether they are in Australia or the UK.

Hi Kathy

I have been looking into the frozen semen as well - it sounds very pricey
but I guess if you get a foal then it is worth it. THe most important
aspect I think is having an extremely experienced vet who can do the work up
and insemination. You must also check the viability of semen and success
rates. Some stallions don't freeze so well.

I don't think using AI from any stallion, overseas or from Australia, shows
any disrespect to breeders out here or their stock. I want to use AI as I
breed very few foals and I would like to try some different blood that may
complement my mares. This doesn't mean that there aren't stallions in
Australia that I wouldn't use, it is just that I would prefer to do this
than travel my mares vast distances ,and, I think it is quite exciting to
get something different.

In the end you own your horses and you can breed whatever you want - as long
as you are happy with them. AFter all you have to feed them and pay the vet
bills etc etc.

I hope you find the right boy for your girls and good luck if you pursue the
AI path.

Kind regards

Melinda

P.S congratulations to all who braved the heat at the VAW and survived to
tell the tale.

Hi Kathy,

Julie F here I have had the pleasure of dealing with Jenny
Davidson in regard to the frozen semen that has taken about 20mth to get into
australia , it is held near here at Mulengandra.

I did make an enquiry to these people about sending chilled semen to WA and it
was about $300 at the time. this was done as i had an enquiry for my D stallion
FDL Jack Daniel, I would still be interested in doing this if there was a use
for him over there, he is in the hsndbook. but please email me for more info on

My section C mare is by Julian which of course is another problem

Most of the mares over here are Hazelmere/Trapalanda bred so of

Having been looking for a Section D stallion for a friends mare, I
have found that a lot of registered stallions in the stud book have
either been gelded or have died. Belinda does a wonderful job with
the Cob Handbook, but not everyone lists their stock with it.My
stallion Annan Welshman Sec D ,now 23 years old, has never been
available to outside mares , simply because I am not set up to take
visiting mares, and the responsibility of others mares and foals.I
still however, do a listing , and a page advert in the handbook, so
that people know what stock I breed, I also like to know about the
movement of Cobs to new owners and this is the best way to keep in
touch with it.There have been a few cob stallions come to Australia in
the last couple of years and they all appear to be a very good
additive to the breed. Shirley

Yes Maureen It would take me years to track the photographers all down.
That is if they are still alive, as some of the old photo's have come from

Yes, the copyright would be a nightmare. You would need permission from
every photographer if you were to publish it, and I'm guessing that not
every photo has the photographer identified. But wouldn't it be a great
resource.

hi, eva thinks julian is back over east, does anyone know?
and as i said i have been to the vic all welsh and have loved the line up,
would have bought a filly back then but wasnt for sale , (just because she
was stunning and had won a lot and the stud wanted to retain her:-)
it was ablast seeing all the sec's and all the ponies and see sires n
dams of your own stock that you had only seen in pics.....
i have often wondered what has happened to a lot of the old studs, a lot
have gone,i was looking through an ' 85 journal the other day and thinking
that very thing.

None taken, I just think that there are plenty of Australian (bred and
resident) stallions. I don't think it is a silly idea to purchase a
stallion rather than importing semen for over East. If you are having
problems finding a suitable sire there, then I'm sure another stallion would
be welcomed at stud in WA.
Do you know what happened to Neika Julian (I think that was his name), who
was standing at stud over there about 15 years ago?
Was chatting to Sabina over the weekend commenting that really there are
very few of us left who were in Cobs 15-20 years ago. In those days we did
have no choice. There were two stallions standing at stud in Victoria when
I bred my first Cob foal, luckily both very nice. Since then many more have
been imported, and to the breeders credit many excellent stallions have been
bred.
In those days I wouldn't have considered using a stallion unless it was
imported, nowadays some of our homebred stallions (and mares) I consider to
be better than the imported ones.
I can only reiterate that anyone who thinks are gene pool is limited needs
to visit the Vic All Welsh and see the variety and quality of the breeding
stock paraded. It was a most impressive sight. Something for everyone's
taste.

I have done a book up, of all sec C and D stallions in the WPCSOA stud
books, it is for my own reference to help remember bloodlines etc, I would
love to be able to share it but I have got photo's from all over and with
copyright I am sure I would step on the wrong toes somewhere.

yep, we have seen the line ups at the vic all welsh ourselves and have been
impressed also,love the heritage offspring.
   my only worry
as i intend to get back into the cobs eventualy,
    is that
i would like to see a
full list of sec d and sec c stallions up on the chat sight
   (also with the sec a's)
so you could mayby view the info and a pic and the pedigrees as so many of
them now go back to a lot of the same sire n dams .

generations from now it could be a prob,

hi, eva thinks julian is back over east, does anyone know?
and as i said i have been to the vic all welsh and have loved the line up,
would have bought a filly back then but wasnt for sale , (just because she was
stunning and had won a lot and the stud wanted to retain her:-)
it was ablast seeing all the sec's and all the ponies and see sires n dams of
your own stock that you had only seen in pics.....
i have often wondered what has happened to a lot of the old studs, a lot have
gone,i was looking through an ' 85 journal the other day and thinking that very
thing.

In those days I wouldn't have considered using a stallion unless it was

I can only reiterate that anyone who thinks are gene pool is limited needs

As a cob owner in WA we are not as lucky as you all in the eastern
states on the choice's of stallions we can put over our mares. That is
why I was hoping to get some information on the costs etc of frozen
otherwise I might have to buy another stallion !!(oh and that would be
soooo sad..not !)
I own the D stallion Hillswood Red Robin, who was Supreme cob at this
years all welsh show (judge: Lottie Abrahall)I have a lovely filly on
the ground by him whom I love but I will need some different blood
lines so I can eventually breed her on as well...

so no disrespect was intended to any of our aussie cob stallions.
I intended to use one from the east...

its a pity some sort of co-op set cant be done so ausi members had a better
choice of stallions and it would be cheaper ,

Welsh Cob Discussion List Rules
May 26, 2005

PURPOSE

We are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Welsh Cob in
Australia.
We welcome the discussion about all things to do with Welsh Cobs.

ATMOSPHERE

There is a strong code of proper etiquette on the Welsh Cob List,
and it is every contributing subscriber's responsibility to uphold
that code of etiquette and set a good example for others on this list.
Treat others how you would like to be treated.
It is very important that each subscriber does his/her part to contribute to a
healthy,
helpful atmosphere. We are here to share information and thoughts, discuss in a
friendly manner
and to help each other. Please be supportive of others,
especially those whom you disagree with.

ONE-LINERS

(One-liners are comments that consist of a few words to only a sentence in reply
to
someone else's post). Please resist the temptation to send one-liner posts that
add nothing to the conversation, such as "Me, Too" or "Thank you" only.
IF you have something more to add, such as elaborate on why you agree or how
someone's
post has helped you, then please feel free to do so. If you just want to thank
somebody
or let them know you agree with them, please email them privately. IF, however,
you have
something substantial to say and can do so in only a few words, this is not
considered a
"one-liner" and you are welcome to send such posts.

FLAME WARS/INFLAMMATORY POSTS

All messages must be mindful, kind, and peaceful, they may not be cruel or
inflammatory to anyone in any way.
Personal attacks and misleading gossip are NOT acceptable, and we expect them
not to happen, under ANY circumstances.
Consider carefully what you post about others, whether they are members of this
list or not, you will be personally LIABLE for any damage caused by your post.
If you can not discuss in an open and friendly manner, you do not belong on
these lists.
Name calling and derogatory comments are completely uncalled for and unwelcome.
It is natural in any discussion for people to disagree, otherwise it wouldn't be
a discussion... however, please disagree politely.
As long as you are courteous and don't intentionally offend or insult others on
the lists, you are a welcome addition. Nastiness, in any form, will not be
tolerated.

MISUNDERSTANDINGS

Misunderstandings are normal. No matter how well you think you explain yourself,
what you say may be misinterpreted.
If this happens, CALMLY clarify what you have meant, rather than take offense.
Give people the benefit of the doubt, and treat them with respect, even (or
ESPECIALLY)
in case of disagreement. Treat others how you would like to be treated.

OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION

Off-topic discussion is not allowed.

SAFE FOR CHILDREN

These lists are safe for children. Please do not post content that would be
unacceptable to those under 18.

TRIM

When replying to another's post, please delete all that is not vital to maintain
the
coherence of the thread. Yahoogroups tends to add considerable advertising,
links, etc.
to the bottom of every post... delete these before hitting send on your reply.
Take special note if you are a DIGEST subscriber... please remove all material
that
isn't on the topic you are posting to.
Posting privileges may be revoked if replies to the lists are not trimmed.

SUBJECT LINE

When a subject changes, as they tend to do, please change the subject line to
reflect this.
Also please make sure not to leave the subject line blank.

SIGN/SIGNATURES

Sign your posts, preferably with your name and email address.
You are welcome to include your webpage URL(s) in your .sig file. Keep in mind,
though, signature files are fine but overly long ones are bothersome.

ADVERTISING

Advertising (items/horses for sale, services, events) are only welcome if they
are directly
concerning Welsh Cobs.

COPYRIGHT

Copyright is retained by the writer of a message. Public posting does not give
one
permission to publish a message in a magazine, repost it somewhere else, etc.
If you love what someone's written, contact them privately and discuss further
publication with them. If it comes to the List Administrators' attention that
posts
have been forwarded from one of our lists to another list WITHOUT the author's
permission,
it will result in immediate unsubscription and ban from the lists from the
offending party.

IF RESPONDING PRIVATELY, CHECK YOUR SEND-TO BOX

It can be AWFULLY embarrassing to mail something to the whole list that was
intended for
an individual (not to mention highly annoying for the rest of the list
subscribers).
Always check and double-check that the send-to box reads the addressee of the
person that
you intend to receive it.

HIGH VOLUME

We have many subscribers and, at times, this list can have a high volume of
email
discussion. Additionally, if anyone is concerned with the volume of email they
are
receiving with these lists, I recommend they change their status to DIGEST form.
You can do
this by sending a blank email to welshcobs-digest@...
To reverse this procedure, simply send a blank email to
welshcobs-normal@... .

UNSUBSCRIBING

To unsubscribe, send a blank email to welshcobs-unsubscribe@...

ATTACHMENTS / ARCHIVES

Due to the virus risk, attachments are stripped of all posts.
If you want to share your photos, you can do so at the Welsh Cob YahooGroups
website...
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/welshcobs - sign in and post your photos in
either
the files section or photos section.
Message archives are also available.
