Hi Julie
I have used pumpkin and seeds in the past with a really light palomino (boil
it till soft and add to feed) and sometimes livermol, however if the horse
was to be shown in actual palomino classes you would have to be careful the
horse didn't smut. Green grass and lucerne hay also darken the coat. The Sec
C that I had did smut (and I think it looks really pretty) we were feeding
her up to coincide with a growth spurt so the size was more important than
the colour.
At this time of year the coat coming will be at its darkest so constant
rugging. Exposure to the sun will lighten it. I was told that smutting
doesn't matter if you are showing welsh only if you intend to show in
palomino classes.
As for the tail GOODLUCK my mare could get stains on her tail even though it
was plaited the entire show season. It is very hard to get the yellow tinge
from the bottom out. Constant washing (I would be starting now) and there
are products that assist with that problem. You have to be careful to make
sure you don't dry the hair out too much. I heaved such a sigh of relief
when I saw the new foal had a palomino tail!!!!!
cheers
Carol

Hello Julie.
Most members that are on the judging panel can classify
FS stock. Check your RPG for list Fiona Forge should have a copy.
And I don't think I can spell either. Noel

Hi Julie,
I have heard that feeding anything orange to a pally will darken it without
smutting.Theres a palimino stud that says to feed pumpkin! I have a friend who
has one and says not to feed any lucern. But when i had my cream gelding i didn't
worry too much about smutting and i gave him Bio-bloom.Its not cheap ,but it
brings up a coat beautifully.
Cheers
Sam
PS I think Howes can classify your filly.

Hi Julie,

Try adding kelp to the feed - it makes chestnuts darker, so should work with
palominos. Copper also has the same effect.

We know a lady who makes white cotton show halters, with no metal
fittings fully adjustable. Currently makes them for Clydesdales. But
showed us a smaller one would look stunning on Sect."C" or "D" &
guess what? They are fully washable no metal bits to rust or
discolour. Will post a photo when she knows more on the costs.

Hi All
I think my horses got to sneaky peak some Olympic action. Today I
saw the funniest thing and as usual no camera available. I was
sitting watching over them having my morning coffee and one laid
down then one after the other the next six went down after circling
once or twice. I thought it was most artistic!!!!!
About 10 minutes later they were all flat out looking like they were
all dead. Good stuff.

Just wanted to encourage people to support local shows.
We have this weekend a breed show with classes for all sections (A<

And three of those are mine !!!!
They recon they won't bother next year as it cost's alot for the
insurance and the ribbons for nothing. I also don't like competing
against myself! Even if the outcome will be that one of mine will
come home Supreme!

So go on take your "welshy's" out and about !!

Hello Leonie
I am fairly sure there is a ridden class. I think it may be all in
togerther though! I will try and get a program this week and confirm. It
is a good show but very expensive to get in the gate!

Hi Kathy,

I dont know where you are situated-yes I agree about supporting local
show - I hope to do Canberra Royal, Mossvale and Braidwood this next
season - dont know where else there are Welsh classes at aggie shows
locally.

However I think if petrol doesnt go down in price more shows (aggies
in particular) will be having less classes as I think people will
think twice about going for only a couple of classes.

Maybe I am too mercenary but in the end there is only a limited money
supply. I have already decided that the Vic All Welsh, Sydney Royal
and probably the Welsh nationals are out of the question because of
petrol costs.

cheers
Liz

Hi Liz,

LOL, sounds like a lovely weekend!.

I hope you can share some rain! (smiling).

It is great when things work out when you don't really want to do something, re
the judging.

Our new mare arrived yesterday, she is lovely. Salient Gay Girl (Gidget). Dad
is Val's Alcheringa Flashman, Dam is a lovely B mare with old fashioned
breeding.
Gidget is a touch under 15hh, chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail. She has the
lovely disposition that we all have with our lovely welsh cobs.

She is very feminine, and willing to please. Hubby has barred her for him to
have!. I can't complain, absolutely thrilled for him, to be honest. I can't
ask for more!.

Regards,
Kim

Hi all.
Just wanted to encourage people to support local shows.
We have this weekend a breed show with classes for all sections (A<
B< C< D< and Geldings!) so far the organisers have had 4 entries!!
And three of those are mine !!!!
They recon they won't bother next year as it cost's alot for the
insurance and the ribbons for nothing. I also don't like competing
against myself! Even if the outcome will be that one of mine will
come home Supreme!

So go on take your "welshy's" out and about !!

See Ya's
Kathy

Hi Everyone,

I am soooo happy - Canberra has had 25mm of rain in the last 24 hrs
and its still raining !!! We havent had this much rain since last
year.

Theres even mud at the stables.

Baldricks paddock had a slight green tinge today. He is out with
doona and waterproof rugs on and is filthy from rolling in the mud.

Hope everyone had a good weekend with their horses. I visited my 2
oldies and started removing winter coats. So much fur everywhere.

Thought I was going to have to judge at Bowral as they had a judge
drop out on Saturday but the time I called back - they had found
someone - I was really happy.

cheers
Liz
