I stand at stud 3 stallions to the public.

I prefer the mare owner to deliver the mare to our property so they are able to
see the facilities etc, they sign a contract before leaving the mare on the
property. The only problem I have had with outside mares is the mares
themselves, they seem to arrive here very poor in condition, in which I will not
serve until they are in good condition, I am very upfront and will discuss this
with the mare owner and come to an agreement so they do not get a shock when
they get the bill for agistment, sometimes the feet are quite bad, their mares
are kickers and don't tell me, or the owner does not have the funds to pay. It
is also a requirement for all mares that enter our property to have had the
necessary injections, feet trimmed etc. I am more than happy to supply AI as I
think this helps eliminate the risk of my stallions getting hurt and saves the
agistment cost to the mare owner, though the downside is the vet costs for the
mare owner.

I like to preg test the mare within a certain time after serving to confirm they
are in foal, this also gives the opportunity to see if the mare has any problems
if she is not in foal.

Mares shouldn't have to be at the stud for a long time.

I don't know what happened in your case eg how long the mare was away for, what
agreements you had for agistment costs and feeding, payment etc.

If I was the mare owner sending my mare away for a service I would only expect
her to be gone a month and would ring to check when she was served, paying my
agistment up front, letting them know her cycle routine. Go and check on the
mare or ring to enquire how she is.

I am a responsible person and take care very good care of other peoples mares on
our property and would not hesitate to contact a vet if there was a problem.

All I can say in future is perhaps regulary go and check you mare at the
property, make sure everyone is clear regarding agistment and what feeding
routine you are wanting.

We have had great reports from outside mare owners about the condition of their
horses when they have been picked up to go home.

Sorry I have had a big week-end so hope this makes sense.

I don't want people to feel they can not trust sending their mares to stud.
Perhaps other people that stand stallions at stud can give their opinion so
people can feel safe about sending their mares out to stud?

Hi has anyone had bad experiences sending mares away to stallions? I
nearly lost my daughters welsh mare when inspected her at the "Stud"
she was injured (had been for some time) neglected, feet and worming
not done even though money sent to stallion owner. After rescuing
her and being abused by stallion ownwer, a lengthy recovery and vet
bill, the mare is now back to her normal condition (took 5 months!)
Mare owners beware as over $1000 was sent to ensure ponies were well
cared for, this did not happen .

Most of the pics are of the Cobs but there are some A's as well.
They aren't professional ones but I took about 230 pics so there are
some good ones to choose from. I will be going through them during
the week.

Hi Melinda,

I think sorta shell-shocked, lol would describe it hehehe. We have
all known him for years, x racehorse trainer, lovely fella and a
good horseman, the mare is stunning, she looked magnificent, he has
done very well with her at Aggis, led and Harness, well deserved. I
told him it was better than winning a race, nearly anyway, lol

Hi All,
Just want to let you all know that the Welsh National Show, Auction and Welsh
Feature Show were splendid. Not having shown for about 3 years it was great to
get out amongst it all again. It was a job well done for all involved both
officials and competitors.
I took along with me a couple (Peter and Lisa Davy) who are new to both
Australia and Welshies and they couldn't have had more fun, and be made more
welcome from everybody. They are truly hooked. Peter and Lisa thought is was so
good that they didn't come home empty handed. At the Auction the bought a lovely
pali sect B filly Indi Frayer, to add to their ever expanding herd. Lisa showed
for the first time today in the B 2yo filly class, having previously had someone
else show for her, placing 5th out of 7, well done Lisa. We will all be hearing
more from them, they also have several cobs.
Thank-you to everyone again, for such a pleasant weekend, even for spectators.
Cheers Ally.

Thanks Deb, I know what you are like as I have bought lots of stuff from you in
the past and it always arrived, that is why I was so worried when the other
stuff didn't show. I know it is only $10.

On a brighter note I went to a campdraft today on my ASH mare and won overall
:-) in the open group and got the highest points of the day. It was her first
draft and she is about 15 y.o. and has never done drafts before, I even got a
round through the gate so I was very happy! I had only ever done 3 before. We
also had a open sports day yesterday and took old faithful Sandy and we won
overall in that too. That is why my brain is still half dead. I organised the
whole week-end with a couple of other people, something I will never do ever
again. I am so tired. The main thing is all the pony club kids had a great
weekend. They even attacked my pally horse with pink spray giving him stripes
and dots and a pink tail...poor horse...he still has a pink tail today.

Also my mare foaled a month early last Wednesday, a little pally colt, my first
from the pally stallion. I just went down and checked him and he is going
great. It was very lucky I got the vet out immediately and we gave him plasma
otherwise he probably wouldn't have made it. I will put some photos on my
website of him in the next week after life settles down again. It is hard now
that I am back at work full-time. You will have to give me your private addy so
I don't bore everyone!

Thanks again :-)

Hi all,

I have a few results from the National Welsh.
Synod Aristocrat, Grand Champion Led
Jack won his C & D Stallion class and went on to win Supreme Ridden
Welsh Stallion, I think there was about 6 A & B Stallions.
Jack Daniel at his first show under saddle and indoor ran 2nd to
Jack in the stallion class. He was a very good boy. Hamish will be
under saddle tomorrow.
Harry won his Section C Mare or gelding Ridden from 4 horses.
A Section B won Ch Gelding and also went on to win Grand Champion
Welsh Hunter, sorry I will look his name up later.
Holly was 3rd in her led, Tess won her led class and Harry was 2nd
in his from 4. Nice to see Grenwood Express and meet his people and
some people from WA.
A & B Sales the prices were low quite a few passed in one sold for
$500 and another for $1500. One was passed in for $1750.
Cobs sold quite well top price was Derwen Dakota mare in foal for
$4400 before we left and a weanling colt sold by Sackville Sinbad
for $3000 and also a Wingana Welsh Flyer for $3000.
We left a little before the end.
Congratulations to all purchasers and successful vendors.
Horrible weather, freezing, hailstorm and wind.

Hi everyone,

Jack Daniel has joined his father at Tatura for a saddle career with
Kasey and Norm. He, along with River Dol, Hamish, Holly, Rhadlon
Hywel and Bella will all be presented next weekend at Bendigo for
classification into the Aust. Sports Pony Registry. Daniel will be
home for part of the breeding season to cover mares and will stand
for the rest of the season at Tatura.
I am looking forward to commencing the show career of his
exceptional son,
FDL Glenfiddich who is out of Burrowa Ladylight Express. He will be
commencing his show career at the next foal shows.

Hello Everyone,
Well done to jack, norm and novice rider!
I only hope we can be half as good, when we make it out an about.
I have been busy having a ball playing with Thomas first baby-Arawen.
She is sooo much fun! and so very easy going, but then what can else can one
expect with a mum an dad like hers ?
A note for new cob owners...
Just a warning for us new cob owners, be very careful how much an what you feed
you pony.
They are all different but...
As it turns out, I over did it and this made for all sorts of silly behaver.-
too use to feeding big horses.
I have found copra upsets Thomas a bit.

I have put some photos of Thomas in the colts folder and some in the part bred
of mum and new filly foal Arawen.
She is to be register part Arabian and part cob and I can't wait to show her.
We have also started doing some more natural horsemanship with some ladies in
Kyneton.
Hope everyone is well.
p.s May get a chance to meet some of you at the vic sale & show.
p.s I have some birman youngsters that are looking for loving homes- going very
cheaply if anyone would like a beautiful an kind pet.
thanks
