Welsh Cob Discussion List Rules
May 26, 2005

PURPOSE

We are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Welsh Cob in
Australia.
We welcome the discussion about all things to do with Welsh Cobs.

ATMOSPHERE

There is a strong code of proper etiquette on the Welsh Cob List,
and it is every contributing subscriber's responsibility to uphold
that code of etiquette and set a good example for others on this list.
Treat others how you would like to be treated.
It is very important that each subscriber does his/her part to contribute to a
healthy,
helpful atmosphere. We are here to share information and thoughts, discuss in a
friendly manner
and to help each other. Please be supportive of others,
especially those whom you disagree with.

ONE-LINERS

(One-liners are comments that consist of a few words to only a sentence in reply
to
someone else's post). Please resist the temptation to send one-liner posts that
add nothing to the conversation, such as "Me, Too" or "Thank you" only.
IF you have something more to add, such as elaborate on why you agree or how
someone's
post has helped you, then please feel free to do so. If you just want to thank
somebody
or let them know you agree with them, please email them privately. IF, however,
you have
something substantial to say and can do so in only a few words, this is not
considered a
"one-liner" and you are welcome to send such posts.

FLAME WARS/INFLAMMATORY POSTS

All messages must be mindful, kind, and peaceful, they may not be cruel or
inflammatory to anyone in any way.
Personal attacks and misleading gossip are NOT acceptable, and we expect them
not to happen, under ANY circumstances.
Consider carefully what you post about others, whether they are members of this
list or not, you will be personally LIABLE for any damage caused by your post.
If you can not discuss in an open and friendly manner, you do not belong on
these lists.
Name calling and derogatory comments are completely uncalled for and unwelcome.
It is natural in any discussion for people to disagree, otherwise it wouldn't be
a discussion... however, please disagree politely.
As long as you are courteous and don't intentionally offend or insult others on
the lists, you are a welcome addition. Nastiness, in any form, will not be
tolerated.

MISUNDERSTANDINGS

Misunderstandings are normal. No matter how well you think you explain yourself,
what you say may be misinterpreted.
If this happens, CALMLY clarify what you have meant, rather than take offense.
Give people the benefit of the doubt, and treat them with respect, even (or
ESPECIALLY)
in case of disagreement. Treat others how you would like to be treated.

OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION

Off-topic discussion is not allowed.

SAFE FOR CHILDREN

These lists are safe for children. Please do not post content that would be
unacceptable to those under 18.

TRIM

When replying to another's post, please delete all that is not vital to maintain
the
coherence of the thread. Yahoogroups tends to add considerable advertising,
links, etc.
to the bottom of every post... delete these before hitting send on your reply.
Take special note if you are a DIGEST subscriber... please remove all material
that
isn't on the topic you are posting to.
Posting privileges may be revoked if replies to the lists are not trimmed.

SUBJECT LINE

When a subject changes, as they tend to do, please change the subject line to
reflect this.
Also please make sure not to leave the subject line blank.

SIGN/SIGNATURES

Sign your posts, preferably with your name and email address.
You are welcome to include your webpage URL(s) in your .sig file. Keep in mind,
though, signature files are fine but overly long ones are bothersome.

ADVERTISING

Advertising (items/horses for sale, services, events) are only welcome if they
are directly
concerning Welsh Cobs.

COPYRIGHT

Copyright is retained by the writer of a message. Public posting does not give
one
permission to publish a message in a magazine, repost it somewhere else, etc.
If you love what someone's written, contact them privately and discuss further
publication with them. If it comes to the List Administrators' attention that
posts
have been forwarded from one of our lists to another list WITHOUT the author's
permission,
it will result in immediate unsubscription and ban from the lists from the
offending party.

IF RESPONDING PRIVATELY, CHECK YOUR SEND-TO BOX

It can be AWFULLY embarrassing to mail something to the whole list that was
intended for
an individual (not to mention highly annoying for the rest of the list
subscribers).
Always check and double-check that the send-to box reads the addressee of the
person that
you intend to receive it.

HIGH VOLUME

We have many subscribers and, at times, this list can have a high volume of
email
discussion. Additionally, if anyone is concerned with the volume of email they
are
receiving with these lists, I recommend they change their status to DIGEST form.
You can do
this by sending a blank email to welshcobs-digest@...
To reverse this procedure, simply send a blank email to
welshcobs-normal@... .

UNSUBSCRIBING

To unsubscribe, send a blank email to welshcobs-unsubscribe@...

ATTACHMENTS / ARCHIVES

Due to the virus risk, attachments are stripped of all posts.
If you want to share your photos, you can do so at the Welsh Cob YahooGroups
website...
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/welshcobs - sign in and post your photos in
either
the files section or photos section.
Message archives are also available.

CONDITIONS
You, and not the group owner, are entirely responsible for all Content that you
upload, post, email or otherwise transmit via the Service. The group owner does
not control all the Content posted via the Service and, as such, does not
guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such Content. You understand
that by using the Service, you may be exposed to Content that is offensive,

in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, for any errors or
omissions in any Content, or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a
result of the use of any Content posted, emailed or otherwise transmitted via
the Service.

INDEMNITY AND RELEASE

You agree to indemnify and hold the list owners, administrators or their
partners harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys'
fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of Content you submit, post
to or transmit through the Service, your use of the Service, your connection to
the Service, your violation of these rules, or your violation of any rights of
another.

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION

Repeat violators will be removed from the List.
These are the list rules, they are not up for debate or discussion.
By posting on this list you agree to these rules and conditions

Hey Shirley

Did you get all that rain last night? I got home at 8.30 last night
and emptied the rain gauge 100ml and got up thismorn 7am and it was
full again...

Yes, the EFA ask for choice of 3 and tell you what you can have
depending on whats available.. so do the colours from my last rego. as
I said though I personally would use the stud name- just to make it
easy from me if nothing else.

Sad re your pally colt I know what you mean... I guess the only way to
stop this name problem at this stage is to register them yourself if
you think that they are going to be a good ridden or show prospect.

Apparently the EFA name issue was discussed at the delagates meeting on
the weekend, so they are aware - not sure of the outcome.

I know you know where yours are - you always have :-)

Hi Leonie,I too think the name "Regiment "suits Reggie, but how can
one animal have more than one reg. name ? It is almost an alias, it
just doesn't seem right. I have not seen an EFA application for reg.
form, but some years ago with a coloured breed society, their form
said something like: choice of names, three to be supplied . The
society would then tell you what had been approved. One palomino colt
that I bred ( this was around 1970/71 ) was a reg. part arab with my
prefix, and when the colour reg. was applied for by the new owner, she
was obliged to put her stud name in front of mine, so he had 2 stud
names and his name. And he was shown quite a bit this way.
Now, as to where all the cobs are, I can give you a detailed list of
every one of mine and where they are now! Also that is why the Cob
Handbook was started so that we would all know these details,
unfortunately not everyone is as interested in the breed , but some
are more interested in what cobs can do.I think the two go together.

Hi Dianne

Sorry tried to reply and nothing happened..original duplicated?? just
re sent...

Do all ponies/cobs need to be rego'd EFA though? That would be costly
as it is probably only a minority that are actually ridden that need
to be...question is how do you know which ones this will be? I think
the rebate on verified EFA preformance is the fair system..I may be
on the wrong track but it would have solved Shirley's problem..

Hi Shirley

Apparently N Mr P is up near Melinda near Newcastle somewhere with a
lovely family last I heard. The people from WA I sent over 100 photos
to them of him and never heard a peep. They maybe bought him for his
ability and not for his breed - although I acknowledge they did mention
his breeding and your stud when they had him up for sale on Euro
dressage - this is world wide! Sounds like maybe Hoof Beats just got
the wrong info given to them and I guess they have no idea of a horses
real name unless they are given that info?? Who knows?

Reggie (Grenwood Last Drinks)is an example - he is now registered as
Regiment with the EFA doing official dressage and winning. Harriet was
torn when making this decision but as he is affectionately known as
Reggie "Regiment" was a personal choice (and shorter!)and I guess it is
her choice to call her horse whatever she wants if she is paying
maybe??? I guess also maybe it is still better to have him out under a
different name than not out at all? For the record I do like this name
and it suits him but I would have used his stud name and will use the
stud name on any I register.

BTW general question to breeders / everyone... where ARE all of the cob
mares/geldings that you and other studs have bred...even at a
conservative 10 cobs bred per year in NSW in the last ten years that is
100...where are they?? where do they go?? (I know Melindas are still at
her place **grin** and yes she does take them out led)Sorry off
track :-)

I cannot see how it can be enforced that the name not be changed for
EFA unless the horse is de-registered with WPCS but that would not help
the breeder anyway! Only the EFA could enforce this that they be
registered as their welsh name. Is that possible - would they care??
Who would approach them to see if this is possible?? COM?? John,Megan
what do you think??

Maybe a solution could be a ridden/performance welsh incentive where
the breeder or new owner gets a rebate or partial from the WPCS or
something like this?? for registering stock upon proof of the horses
first official EFA competition. This ensures that the registered EFA
name IS their stud name.

This would also benefit the breeding of part breds a's and b's with
pony dressage about to be the next biggest thing that could happen for
our breed (all sections)who do have to be registered EFA to compete
official pony dressage.

So potentially there are a whole heap of ponies/cobs that's names will
possibly be changed very soon unless they are already registered with
EFA on sale by the breeder or this incentive is introduced or it can be
enforced somehow that the welsh name be used.

Obviously breeders would have some idea which stock is more suited to
be registered EFA and would use their discretion. I also think this
stock would be more saleable also as riding prospects to the 'non cob
or welsh pony enthusiast performance market' if they are already
registered...which again is good for all of you breeders

I know it is an extra cost but it is minimal if it does ensure lifetime
recoginition and advertising for your stud on sucessful animals and
some insurance benefits to boot. What do you think??? Is this worth
pursuing?

Ok everyone play nice and don't attack me I have been lurking and not
wanting to get involved but as a lover of the breed and not as a
breeder I also want to promote cobs(ie have someone to compete against
at the NSW AW and cob classes would be nice)and think this is a great
start...

regards Leonie and Vic and LBB and temporarily Cad :-)

Hello Mona,
Lots of rain thanks, flooding in the Lismore region, we are waiting in Grafton
to see how it go's, lots of very wet and cold horses and local ponding, our very
old house stays out of the water but the paddocks dont!.

Our Lucerne paddock was ready to cut grrrr, had to buy feed for the old girls
yesterday and that hurt, $27 for L-chaff.

Hi Cookie

I have my ponies across town near windsor, you are welcome to come at
look at ours. Currently at the agistment centre where I keep mine,
there is 8 welsh Cobs of various shapes sizes and colours. After
seeing our bunch you will be pretty impressed. Are you interested in a
C or a D ?

I even have a spare you can have a ride on :-). They are both great to
ride.

You can email me privately on mona65@... if you like to
organise a visit.

yep i agree,
  id be p..... as well,
but like kathy said ,
with the EFA they can give them whatever name they want, we all recon that
should be made illegal. if a horse is branded it usualy has a name and should be
treated as such,
a lady and small breder over hear had a loverly pony go east and its name was
changed and nothing could be done,
i wonder if something could be done about this practice to stop it for once and
for all
????????????????????????????????
cheers dianne.

Especially one so sucessful as Niscinda Mr President. It is quite a
shame that his owners don't acknowledge not just the stud who bred him
but his breed as well which from what I have read they are pretty
happy to be ignorant about as well.

Luckily I guess, most cob owners are thrilled about their Cobs and
happily tell all and sundry their full name, pedigree and breed to any
one who will listen and probably (hehehe) to people who don't listen
as well :-)

Hi Shirley,
We watched, and competed at the same events as "Niscinda Mr
President" a few times over here in WA and I will add he wasn't
named under the EFA as Niscinda just Mr President!!!
I approached the rider at an event once and asked what breeding he
was and they had no idea..I then pointed out I believed he was a
welsh cob and they said "oh yer, something like that!"
Its a shame he didn't have more competition over here but there
aren't enough ponies (cobs !!Im working on it) over here jumping and
eventing at his level.
I have heard this complaint from other breeders as you can name your
horse anything you want when you register them with the EFA this is
stealing from the breeder in my opinion. We are the ones that care
for the mare choose the sire feed and nuture all concerened and then
they are sold on with our hopes and dreams attatched and you see
them out winning and no mention of your stud in their new found
name...(stormy, clyde,joe blogs etc etc)
Yes it does "rub me the wrong way!!"

just my opinion
Kathy

Sounds like the editor or writer has dropped the prefix of those ponies if
it's more than one..... Not fair on the breeder's that's for sure

Have been reading the W.A. publication Hoofbeats, which I really
enjoy. What I didn't enjoy was a small paragraph about quote"Mr.
President, who had a short campaign in the west , before being snapped
up by a N.S.W.buyer , also had a great show at Sydney. placing highly
in breed and hack classes."unquote. As the breeder of NISCINDA Mr
President I have no knowledge of his Sydney performance, but after
years of his competing and winning multi awards, in quite a few
disciplines ,I am most upset by this occurence and intend to send an e
mail to Hoofbeats. It may be the new owners have dropped the prefix or
the reporter who sinned! It just shouldn't happen. In the same magazine
were two pictures of "LEMON TWIST "who every one knows is OWENDALE
LEMON TWIST, a Section B and hunter pony, Owendale is a very large
stud breeding for a lot longer than I have and a good pony needs to
keep his full name! There I have had my say, how do others view this?
Shirley
