Welsh Cob Discussion List Rules
May 26, 2005

PURPOSE

We are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Welsh Cob in
Australia.
We welcome the discussion about all things to do with Welsh Cobs.

ATMOSPHERE

There is a strong code of proper etiquette on the Welsh Cob List,
and it is every contributing subscriber's responsibility to uphold
that code of etiquette and set a good example for others on this list.
Treat others how you would like to be treated.
It is very important that each subscriber does his/her part to contribute to a
healthy,
helpful atmosphere. We are here to share information and thoughts, discuss in a
friendly manner
and to help each other. Please be supportive of others,
especially those whom you disagree with.

ONE-LINERS

(One-liners are comments that consist of a few words to only a sentence in reply
to
someone else's post). Please resist the temptation to send one-liner posts that
add nothing to the conversation, such as "Me, Too" or "Thank you" only.
IF you have something more to add, such as elaborate on why you agree or how
someone's
post has helped you, then please feel free to do so. If you just want to thank
somebody
or let them know you agree with them, please email them privately. IF, however,
you have
something substantial to say and can do so in only a few words, this is not
considered a
"one-liner" and you are welcome to send such posts.

FLAME WARS/INFLAMMATORY POSTS

All messages must be mindful, kind, and peaceful, they may not be cruel or
inflammatory to anyone in any way.
Personal attacks and misleading gossip are NOT acceptable, and we expect them
not to happen, under ANY circumstances.
Consider carefully what you post about others, whether they are members of this
list or not, you will be personally LIABLE for any damage caused by your post.
If you can not discuss in an open and friendly manner, you do not belong on
these lists.
Name calling and derogatory comments are completely uncalled for and unwelcome.
It is natural in any discussion for people to disagree, otherwise it wouldn't be
a discussion... however, please disagree politely.
As long as you are courteous and don't intentionally offend or insult others on
the lists, you are a welcome addition. Nastiness, in any form, will not be
tolerated.

MISUNDERSTANDINGS

Misunderstandings are normal. No matter how well you think you explain yourself,
what you say may be misinterpreted.
If this happens, CALMLY clarify what you have meant, rather than take offense.
Give people the benefit of the doubt, and treat them with respect, even (or
ESPECIALLY)
in case of disagreement. Treat others how you would like to be treated.

OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION

Off-topic discussion is not allowed.

SAFE FOR CHILDREN

These lists are safe for children. Please do not post content that would be
unacceptable to those under 18.

TRIM

When replying to another's post, please delete all that is not vital to maintain
the
coherence of the thread. Yahoogroups tends to add considerable advertising,
links, etc.
to the bottom of every post... delete these before hitting send on your reply.
Take special note if you are a DIGEST subscriber... please remove all material
that
isn't on the topic you are posting to.
Posting privileges may be revoked if replies to the lists are not trimmed.

SUBJECT LINE

When a subject changes, as they tend to do, please change the subject line to
reflect this.
Also please make sure not to leave the subject line blank.

SIGN/SIGNATURES

Sign your posts, preferably with your name and email address.
You are welcome to include your webpage URL(s) in your .sig file. Keep in mind,
though, signature files are fine but overly long ones are bothersome.

ADVERTISING

Advertising (items/horses for sale, services, events) are only welcome if they
are directly
concerning Welsh Cobs.

COPYRIGHT

Copyright is retained by the writer of a message. Public posting does not give
one
permission to publish a message in a magazine, repost it somewhere else, etc.
If you love what someone's written, contact them privately and discuss further
publication with them. If it comes to the List Administrators' attention that
posts
have been forwarded from one of our lists to another list WITHOUT the author's
permission,
it will result in immediate unsubscription and ban from the lists from the
offending party.

IF RESPONDING PRIVATELY, CHECK YOUR SEND-TO BOX

It can be AWFULLY embarrassing to mail something to the whole list that was
intended for
an individual (not to mention highly annoying for the rest of the list
subscribers).
Always check and double-check that the send-to box reads the addressee of the
person that
you intend to receive it.

HIGH VOLUME

We have many subscribers and, at times, this list can have a high volume of
email
discussion. Additionally, if anyone is concerned with the volume of email they
are
receiving with these lists, I recommend they change their status to DIGEST form.
You can do
this by sending a blank email to welshcobs-digest@...
To reverse this procedure, simply send a blank email to
welshcobs-normal@... .

UNSUBSCRIBING

To unsubscribe, send a blank email to welshcobs-unsubscribe@...

ATTACHMENTS / ARCHIVES

Due to the virus risk, attachments are stripped of all posts.
If you want to share your photos, you can do so at the Welsh Cob YahooGroups
website...
http://au.groups.yahoo.com/group/welshcobs - sign in and post your photos in
either
the files section or photos section.
Message archives are also available.

CONDITIONS
You, and not the group owner, are entirely responsible for all Content that you
upload, post, email or otherwise transmit via the Service. The group owner does
not control all the Content posted via the Service and, as such, does not
guarantee the accuracy, integrity or quality of such Content. You understand

in any way for any Content, including, but not limited to, for any errors or
omissions in any Content, or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a
result of the use of any Content posted, emailed or otherwise transmitted via
the Service.

INDEMNITY AND RELEASE

You agree to indemnify and hold the list owners, administrators or their
partners harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys'
fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of Content you submit, post
to or transmit through the Service, your use of the Service, your connection to
the Service, your violation of these rules, or your violation of any rights of
another.

ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION

Repeat violators will be removed from the List.
These are the list rules, they are not up for debate or discussion.
By posting on this list you agree to these rules and conditions

Hi Maryanne

As Julie said, Cobs under saddle are pretty rare, usually they are
keepers. A person buys one and they never sell them.

But they do come up every once in a while and certainly we will let
you know if that happens. You just need to be patient for you new best
friend to make himself available to you :-)

Are you wanting to show as well, just pleasure riding, Dressage ? as
Cobs are capable of all disciplines.

Rice Hulls with foals? Or in general?
I know I was told never(by long time breeders and vet nurses), never use rice
hulls, sawdust with foals as it had been known to go up both vulva of fillies
and noses of both sex. Vulvu = infection Nose = suffication

In general I love them, but my horses/ponies even, with biscuits of hay (lucerne
or oaten, or meadow hay), tend to eat them when new..............

Hi maryanne,
sorry i missed your posting at the beginnning, welcome to this group
and you are no stranger to a good cob that is for sure they should be
able to do everything you discribe. my foundation stallion Barnon
Imperial jack has produced all those thingd in his progeny, as you
say even cow sence which he has a partbred doing as a 3 year old with
a 12 year old rider who broke her in on. I wish you luck on getting a
pony for yourself as most of ours are sold at weaning but there are
some good cobs out there forsale you just have to seach for them and
you will find what you want best of luck Julie F

Hi Mona,

I'm interested in a cob for riding. Would love the high stepping action of
course.

I,m sure I had a welsh cob gelding or cross 20 yrs ago but didnt know it was a
cob. He was a big bay gelding. 14.2hh with a really high knee and hock action.
Good feather, thick mane and tail, brilliant in cross country, pony club,

Are all Cobs as smart as that? Is is a breed thing?

well as a pedigree database and useful info.

There is a wealth of info from our members here as well, so don't be

We use Rice Hulls here and find them fantastic. They come in a huge bale and
we just top up whenever needed (saves the mess of lose shavings being delivered
and blowing all over the place). I actually prefer them now to shavings and
have not had any health problems with any of the ponies or foals being on them.
I have seen Rice Hulls being used at Horse Trainers and Vets, so I presume if
its OK with them, its OK with me...lol...

With this thread on shavings vs straw, I've been wondering about how
shavings vs sawdust. I recently had to reorder some sawdust and asked about
shavings, after having read an article in a horse magazine. I was told by
the two mills that they do not recommend the shavings as the larger studs
(e.g. Lindsay Park) have advised them that some horses have had problems
when they inhaled them. Apparently they cannot dislodge them and cause alot
of problems. Hence why they strongly advised I take the sawdust whilch is
not particularly fine, and is not dusty at all.
Has anyone else had any experience with comparing the two?

We use Rice Hulls here and find them fantastic. They come in a huge bale and we
just top up whenever needed (saves the mess of lose shavings being delivered and
blowing all over the place). I actually prefer them now to shavings and have
not had any health problems with any of the ponies or foals being on them. I
have seen Rice Hulls being used at Horse Trainers and Vets, so I presume if its
OK with them, its OK with me...lol...
Cheers

The Southern NSW RPG of WP&C Soc. held the Welsh Open and Performance
Show at Moss Vale yesterday. We had an outstanding number of
competitors, in all rings. The Welsh ring was amazing in numbers. We
had seven Sec B geldings in the led class, about the same for the
mares and three or four Cob geldings as well as some Cob mares and one
well behaved Cob colt/stallion.Most of the adult ponies were also in
the ridden classes, we also had five competitors in the Rider over 40
years! We have just introduced Rider Age Classes this year and were
very popular.I can't supply numbers of Sec A ponies, but there seemed
to be quite a lot both led and ridden. It was a very satisfying day ,
and if you weren't there you missed a great event. We will probably
expand the program for next year.
Also Picton Ag. Show in October is a medal Show for our RPG, this was
not listed in Action. Shirley

Hi,
I just thought I'd put my 2c worth in, I have been breeding ponies for 30 years,
and have used nothing but shavings! I find it easier to clean with small foal
poo, and not as dusty, I also find foals tend to chew more on the straw than
shavings, and if straw is soiled this can cause all sorts of problems. I have
not lost a foal yet and hope I never will. Good luck.

Thanks Shirley,
I did speak to several people on the day, but as with most shows, either you are
on the commitie or showing or both and quite busy - been there know the feeling,
so did not take up too much of their time. Glad the weather held for you and
hope to see everyone in December.

Thank you Kerri-Ann for your kind words, you should have come up and
chatted to any of us, we are all interested in new members. I know at
least one person on the committee who will show you her Sec A ponies
and if you decide to go up in the world with a Cob, we can organise
that as well. Hope to see you at our Youngstock in Dec.The weather
remained fine on Sunday but did get foggy just at the end , so no
problems. Shirley

Thank you Leonie for the extra info on the show,I couldn't remember
seeing you in the ridden classes but I was pretty busy and could have
missed you! The lovely bay gelding is Trapalanda Cyclone Cymric , I
think he is gorgeous and so laid back, his owner told me he is a super
jumper and attends pony club as well. The grey filly by Niscinda Harley
D is from Amethyst Park, she is a super mover and is destined for
ponyclub, the chestnut was bred by Michelle Bowes and is by Wingana
Welsh Flyer out of Llangollan Kareena, she is a really nice type of
Cob and also is so quiet! The well behaved stallion/colt was the
Cwmkaren one owned by Michelle, he is really growing well! Shirley

Congrats Shirley and all on the show run on Sunday, hope the weather held for
you, could only be there for the morning.
I am a new member to the welshies and enjoyed seeing all the sections out in
force. Definalty a few B's and A's there I could have brought home (if only
there was enough room).
Can not wait to the youngstock show in December - I hope to have at least 2
youngsters there to have fun with.

If there is anyone breeding A's and B's local (Southern Highlands to Canberra)
to this show and would be happy to show us around your stud then please could
you email rokezarabians@... and let me know your details and we
will arrange a visit. Would love to get to know some local welsh people and see
what is in our local area.
