I am looking for expressions of interest for my Airborne C4-14. Its a lovely glider to fly and lands well. Rated advanced, it would suit a pilot who is wanting to make the transition from advanced king posted to topless or possibly even a high hour intermediate pilot looking to move into the big boys league. The glider has around eighty hours and is in very good condition. Blue and white, it looks good on the ground and in the sky.
I am thinking of getting another C4, but just a half size smaller (13.5) but are happy to stick with the 14 should there be no one interested.
If you would like some pictures, then email me and I will flick them over to you.
Asking.......$4500. New price is nearly $9000 so this is a painless way to get yourself into  topless performance. Zoom zoom zoom

Kind Regards
Phillip Knight

Getting a smaller sized glider wont enable you to keep up to an Aeros!
You've just got to make that real change to pick up the 30 seconds.

Cheers
Dave

day by day

Our address - 29 Zuytdorp  Ct , Mahomets, Geraldton (Turn Left just before first shell service station on way into town, then turn Right at the "T" onto McAleer Dr, then it's the fourth Left and you're into our street - we live down the end on the Left side of the street - little caravan is next to the house - if you get lost your a bloody idiot.)

Please RSVP before 25/5/8 to the mickgibberd@... so we've got a bit of an idea, but late entries will be welcomed after suitable ridicule and humiliation ( and a spell in the stocks )

C U Soon, Mick Cath and Chat ( the Cat) - Spike sends a spiritual welcome and will be the safety officer from above.

Oh yes, they are very shiny and that smoke sail would definitely show the stains of “man happiness” a lot more visibly.

Hi Phil

Not too bad at the moment as I've just got home for a 6 week break, heading to NZ to see parents for 10 days as they have just sold Family home and moving into town.
Last time home I went for a 40 min aerobatic flight in an Extra 300, (won a red balloon voucher through gliding)
What a weapon, 300 horse power, 400 deg role rate per second, and I got to fly it, move over Red Bull air race.
Are you still interested in a flight out at beverley? I didn't give you a call last time I was out instructing as we had an open day, just too busy.
Anyway I'm in NZ from the 14th to 26th May and don't head back to work until the 17th June.
So if your interested I'll get an eye on the weather and pick a good weekend.

Cheers
Dave

Subject: [western_soarers] Maybe For sale. Airborne C4-14

Hey Everyone,

You are invited to a Club meeting on the 26th of this month, being held in Leederville.  Held at 23 Melrose St. 7:30pm, BYO.

There’s only a few official items to discuss.

·        Mosman – and where WS are in relation to site access.  PG members are encouraged to come along and discuss.

·        Tow winch / trailer – Update.

More interestingly, we as a club might discuss the following topics.

·        Current HGFA topics;

·        The looming Instructor shortage.

And most interestingly, the Annual Geraldton Trip!

Calling all low airtime and novice pilots!  This is a chance to do some great ridge flying!

Geraldton will hopefully turn it on again and we’ll get to fly!  Friday, May 30 à Monday, June 2nd.

Accommodation has been offered by Doctor Mick & Cathy.  In his own words…

“fly, eat, fly, drink, fly , party, fly , eat etc etc ( and Cath said something about washing dishes....)

You are all welcome to stay at and around our house - privileged people can sleep in the caravan or shed - the under privileged should bring a tent / sleep in ya car...there's alway been enough room in the past.  People who want more luxury (or to impress girl/boyfriends )then it might be an idea to book flash accommodation before it runs out for the long weekend.

day by day

·        friday night - back yard fire and BBQ ( with free sausages) for those who get here early then corroboree practice...

·         saturday - fly all day, orientate to local sites etc, harass the locals at pubs and restaurants....more coroboree practice.

·        sunday - fly all day , spot landing comp, ? beach fire ( or backyard fire) - weather permitting....BIG coroboree.

·        monday - fly all day , most of you will want to F' off home that arvy for work Tuesday..... But if you fall in love with Gero then arrangements can be made.....

Our address - 29 Zuytdorp  Ct , Mahomets, Geraldton (Turn Left just before first shell service station on way into town, then turn Right at the "T" onto McAleer Dr, then it's the fourth Left and you're into our street - we live down the end on the Left side of the street - little caravan is next to the house - if you get lost you’re a bloody idiot.)

Please RSVP before 25/5/8 to the mickgibberd@... so we've got a bit of an idea, but late entries will be welcomed after suitable ridicule and humiliation ( and a spell in the stocks )

C U Soon, Mick Cath and Chat ( the Cat) - Spike sends a spiritual welcome and will be the safety officer from above.â€

This morning I spoke with Chris Fogg regarding the possibility of establishing Club based introduction to flying days.  He was open to the suggestion and in turn gave me some suggestions on how to make this possible.

To all those pilots out there who'd like to give their mates or family a little taste of flying, this is going to be your chance, without them having to go through the entire training process.

This will also give our Clubs an opportunity to have social functions where our friends and families get to 'have a go'.

Read the attached document, and send feedback either to me, or onto the WS forum.  There's some work to be done in getting this right...  but I reckon it's well worth it.

Happy landings!

At the risk of sounding stupid and probably not in the discussion loop but was the training trailer considered? If we could borrow a trotting track for an afternoon somewhere near Perth, that would give a far more enhanced feeling of flying a hang glider without too many worries of wind ect. One rev each should be enough to give the marks a good thrill. Just a thought

Hi all

Last weekend at Wylie got off to a shaky start when it turned out that Farmer Kadidlehopper was ploughing up the Korrelocking paddock; and with the prevailing wind, all that was possible in the alternative paddock next door was trailer work.

On Sunday the wind changed allowing normal tows, and the ploughed paddock turned out to be a great thermal generator, as evidenced by the continuous series of dust devils moving down it.

In the evening light the dust from the tow car provided a bit of aerodynamic flow visualisation. In the photo you can see how the vortex system from the lifting wing has entrained clean air downwards along the path of the glider, and is lifting the dust laden air up and around the edges, creating a tunnel effect.

Towing went on late into a psychedelic sunset:

I will not be able to fly next weekend as I'll be rehearsing and performing Handel's Coronation Anthems at Winthrop Hall with UWA Choral Soc. So if you fancy a bit of culture, the concert starts at 2:30pm on Sunday, tickets $25 at the door.

Interesting photo - this goes towards demonstrating the theory that lift is generated by thrust as much as by airflow differences across the top and bottom of the wing - ie the argument as to how planes can fly upside down.

Planes fly upside down by using an appropriate angle of attack.

I thought the supposed Newton vs Bernoulli debate was summed up very well by Jonty Lawson on the PG Forum recently as follows.

http://www.paraglidingforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=107342#107342

We did the Bernoulli vs Newton discussion to death on EuroPg some years ago. The answer is that it is 100% Newton and 100% Bernoulli.

In a heavier than air flying machine you need to generate a force to keep it in the air. If you can't use a field effect (and nobody has worked out how to make maglev work above about FL 0.001 yet) then you are reduced to generating the force by accelerating something downwards.

You could make a plane fly by having it hurl something it had brought with it downwards (liquid oxygen and kerosene say, or luggage or even passengers), but the easiest thing to do is to hurl air downwards since there is a lot of it lying around doing nothing. If you are doing this then you are using Newtons laws (to the tune of 100%).

Now, you could dream up methods of accelerating air downwards without using pressure effects (ionise it and accelerate it electrically for example) but it turns out that you can use pressure effects very conveniently by moving a suitably shaped surface through the air. He who talks accelerating fluids round shaped surfaces talks Bernoulli (again, to the tune of 100%).

In summary, an airfoil is a device for accelerating air using pressure effects. You can concentrate on the acceleration (Newton) or the pressure effects (Bernoulli) but there is no 'split' between the two.

Jonty

Bernoulli's theorem is Newton's laws of motion written for (and applied to) fluid flows. Even Wiki manages to deal with that one...

I think it is a good idea - but we will have to make sure that if you use
it, you look after it.
Having a vehicle at Bakewell will encourage more car pooling because there
will always (we hope) have a spare vehicle out there
Under no circumstances should it ever be left at the top.
A logbook will be in the glove box which you will have to fill out if you
use it.
We will certainly need the solar charger for the battery - thanks Eric.
We will need volunteers to take the car to York before 14 June.

There's actually a third way to think about and calculate lift.

The streamwise vortices in the wake of the wing (which caused the "tunnel" effect in my photo) are created by the continuous shedding of spanwise vorticity generated in the wing. The lift is calculated as the air density times flight speed times the spanwise vorticity.

When aerodynamicists need to make a theoretical estimate of a wing's lift, the final step of the calculation is more often based on this vorticity formula than on surface pressures.

To derive the vorticity formula you use Bernoulli, and to derive Bernoulli you use Newton; so as Michael Dufty points out, it's still same old lift whichever way you look at it.

I'm Sorry but it seems the more people want to befuddle an issue the
greater the impression I get that they actually know very little of
the mechanics of the whole process.

The genius of both Newton and Bernoulli is that they used the basic
premise, the KISS principle to explain and demonstrate concepts to
people who would probably not have been too receptive to such
outlandish musings so as to leave no doubt .

Newton’s laws of motion, pretty simple stuff really and Bernoulli
says simply that increase the speed and decrease the pressure.
The vortices are an effect of the production of lift not the driving
force.
What Peter says is like saying “we measure the waves at the back of a
boat to work out its speed”???? I'm surprised the Coriolis effect
doesn't feature in there somwhere!

Aerofoils are there to increase efficiency and squeeze the most we
can out of our decent and forward passage through the ambient air
mass (in gliders).

Simply put, the lower surface of our wing is the bearing surface
allowing us to convert our inescapable attraction to the ground into
forward motion (all going well).
If we crack the air apart quickly and slowly join it together again
deflecting it down it has been observed with much experimentation
through many brilliant minds that we can increase performance by more
than 60%.

If you push down on something it tries to come around the sides, that
is what causes vortices show me one that works the opposite way and I
will be impressed!
I guess I am agreeing with everyone anyway both these guys kick ass
100%and it would be difficult to explain how a wing works without
either ones laws.
I know it is a debate subject but it all seems a little inane. I
think they should be made to fight each other?
Big KISS
Jules
